Runner-up in last year's Epsom Derby and gained his first win since landing the Dee Stakes at Chester in a Group 2 at Naas last time, getting the better of reopposing Success Days. Capable of going well here.
Has won six of his last seven starts and produced his best effort yet when winning a Group 2 at Newmarket earlier in the month. Still not fully exposed and worth a go back in Group 1 company here. Leading contender.
Not won since his second start but largely campaigned at the top level in that time and placed in several Group 1 races and in the Breeders' Cup Mile. Solid effort again when third in the Lockinge last time but wouldn't want to see any rain here.
Useful when he gets his own way on the front end and has won four Group races in his time but he would want plenty of rain to arrive for him to be seen to best effect and will struggle to reverse the form with Cliffs Of Moher at Naas last time.
Forecasts
Defoe (5/4), Cliffs Of Moher (7/4), Lancaster Bomber (10/3), Success Days (16/1), Reckless Gold (66/1)
DEFOE is a fascinating English raider who looks unexposed and he's taken to get his head in front and get his first Group 1 success. Ryan Moore sides with last year's Epsom Derby runner-up Cliffs Of Moher after a Group 2 success last time out while stablemate Lancaster Bomber would be of interest if the ground dries out.
