Winner over 6f here on debut on July course and overturned an even money favourite in a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud in impressive fashion when last seen over 7f on just his second start. Likely to improve here again in first-time cheekpieces.

Lope De Vega colt, cost 150,000 gns as a yearling. Half-brother to Racing Post Trophy winner Marcel. Impressive when winning over C&D on debut but plenty more on his plate here but does hold entries for both English and Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Won the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Goodwood and ran better than finishing position in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Very disappointing when an odds-on favourite on dirt at Meydan last time but likely to do better back on turf here.

Nearly threw his chance away when hanging left in a Group 2 over C&D last year. Hung left again in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster when last seen but while that trait is a concern, he brings the best form to the table and hard to beat.

Won twice on AW this winter but held in a handicap off a mark of 87 at Chelmsford last time and several levels below the form required to land any blow in this.

Two wins from three starts as a juvenile, latest in a conditions race over this trip at Newbury. Improvement to come but plenty more needed here; gets first-time blinkers and first-time tongue-tie.

Forecasts

Roaring Lion (8/13), Masar (7/2), Glorious Journey (11/2), White Mocha (16/1), Just Brilliant (25/1), Sir Hamilton (150/1), Thunderhooves (200/1)

15:35 Newmarket - 19 April 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

ROARING LION doesn't look like the most straightforward sort but his form of his Racing Post Trophy second at Doncaster last season is the best on offer and his tendency to hang left may have been ironed out in the interim by his master trainer. The Charlie Appleby pair, Masar and Glorious Journey are the dangers, with preference for the former. He disappointed on dirt last time but he will appreciate the return to turf here and his run in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile was better than the bare form suggests.
  1. Roaring Lion
  2. Masar
  3. Glorious Journey
