Readily off the mark at the second time of asking in handicap company here in December (1m). Travelled well, so this drop in trip shouldn't be a worry, but a bit surprising not to see the blinkers declared again tonight.

£160,000 yearling who was a winner over 1m at Kempton in November, beating Savaanah by 1½L. Didn't quite get home on handicap debut at Chelmsford last month (fourth), but every likelihood he'll be stronger for that reappearance.

€35,000 juvenile who managed to hit the frame on both starts last season at Chester (6f-7f heavy). Beaten 3L by the 86-rated Ayutthaya on the latter occasion, he's been gelded over the winter and now makes his AW debut.

50/1
Mastercraftsman gelding who cost 38,000 gns as a yearling, but showed only slivers of ability in a couple of synthetics starts as a juvenile. Couldn't really be anticipated to have a leading role to play on his comeback run.

20:15 Newcastle - 19 April 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Not all that many for the short-list, and with the returning Desert Frost set to carry a welter burden of 10st 7lb (less his riders 3lb claim), it'll probably pay to concentrate upon the three-year-old's. It is entirely plausible that Tanseeq might've just needed the race at Chelmsford last month and only minimal improvement will see him fighting out the finish with BOLD REASON. Although running without the blinkers that he wore when winning over the straight mile here in December, preference is for the John Gosden trained colt. Newcastle is a happy hunting ground for the Newmarket handler, and he can further enhance his 38% strike rate (19/50) tonight.
  1. Bold Reason
