Previously a dual scorer over fences when with Paul Nicholls he offered something to work on in the same sphere on his debut for this yard. Didn't need to improve to win over hurdles last time (left clear last) and should cope with a penalty.

8/11
Eclipsed his debut form when gaining the run of the race to when on his second bumper start here beating a well backed favourite. Built on that run on his hurdling debut with a good second at Kelso (form franked) and of interest here.

40/1
Form in bumpers was only fair and it wasn't much better until his last run when he left that form behind allowed the run of the race. He proved rather too eager though and needs to settle better to be seen to best effect; better ground may suit.

50/1
Type who looks as though he will do better in the future still in need of the experience sent hurdling last time. Given his price (33/1) it was clear not much was expected and it may well be that he will need this encounter also before he's ready.

Showed very little when raced on the Flat and so far his hurdling run have left something to be desired (bled on debut). At least finished off his race last time but finished well held and needs a mark to be of even mild interest over hurdles.

Has offered some promise and something to work on in all three bumper starts and may not have been seen to the best effect last time (held-up). Now makes his hurdles debut and may need a little more but not totally out of this.

Finished well held in all her bumper runs she finally showed a little more last time on her second hurdles start. Looking as though a greater test of stamina was needed though given she got outpaced and this test may not prove enough.

33/1
Offered a little more encouragement over hurdles than she had in bumpers this trip still looks on the short side for her. Just the type who will make more appeal once she has a mark and is given a test of stamina.
9
Horse silk
200/1
Started at long odds (66/1) for her only start so far in a Kelso bumper when she was well held and now starts her hurdling career. Little expected from her though given that she faces a tough task.

2/1
Useful sort on the Flat (won a Galway 1m4f handicap off 80) she showed plenty of aptitude for hurdling on her debut effort at Ludlow. Looking likely to be sharper for that run with the form having been franked and has to be respected getting weight.

Forecasts

Aye Right (8/11), Pearl Of The West (2/1), Contre Tous (9/2), The Dawn Bandit (33/1), Wor Verge (33/1), Biennial (40/1), Karamoko (50/1), Cyprus Avenue (66/1), Tibbie Tamson (200/1), Placedela Concorde (200/1)

14:50 Carlisle - 25 March 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

An interesting and competitive novice with some depth to it and Conte Tous looks the sort who can continue to thrive although he has to give weight away here having been left clear at the final flight when winning last time. Aye Right has already shown himself to be useful and won’t be long in winning over hurdles given his debut effort. PEARL OF THE WEST showed enough on her debut over hurdles to be considered for an event like this having had Triumph Hurdle runner-up behind her on the Flat this summer. Biennial and Wor Verge are two others that enter the equation but will be more of interest in handicaps in the future.
  1. Pearl Of The West
  2. Aye Right
  3. Contre Tous
