Chased home the highly regarded Willie John on debut before scraping home in a weaker race at Doncaster (7f, good-to-soft). Penalty makes him vulnerable but he looks the type to do better this year.

Has a leading chance based on his successful debut at Doncaster and he appeared not to enjoy the mud next time. A gelding operation and first-time blinkers suggest he has not been straightforward, but he could be the type to catch when fresh.

Didn't show a lot on debut but did much better when not beaten far by the useful Tansheet here last September. Should improve this year and of some interest.

Did not have to improve much to take third here four weeks ago. Has a fitness advantage, but it will take more than that to land this.

Bred to be decent, half-brother to the very useful Heavy Metal and although there was only limited promise to be taken from his Kempton debut, he was green there and much better can be expected here. One of the more interesting ones.

€62,000 daughter of Choisir out of a dam who was a winner over 6f. Stable do well at this time of year and there have been signs that the winners will soon be flowing from Kingsley House.

Forecasts

Night Castle (1/1), Amplification (3/1), Narcos (5/1), On A May Day (11/1), Citron Major (16/1), Broken Force (18/1)

18:15 Newcastle - 8 March 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Narcos and Amplification set reasonable standards on their winning form but both could find their penalties and the lack of a recent run counting against them. NIGHT CASTLE looked too backward to do himself justice on his recent Kempton debut, however there was a lot to like about the performance and he could take advantage of his proven fitness. On A May Day represents a stable that are just getting into full swing, whilst Citron Major has run to a similar level in both starts and if he can find a few pounds of improvement then he could be a factor.
  1. Night Castle
  2. Amplification
  3. Narcos
