Age: 9|  Weight: 9-9| J: Connor Murtagh(5)| T: R C Guest| OR:  52| BF| CD
4/1
Profited from an astute ride (gifted an unassailable lead) at Newcastle on his penultimate start, but not so suited by dropping back in trip next time at Wolverhampton. Now 5lb higher than for his January C&D success.

Acquired from Tracy Waggott for £11,000 13 months ago, but hasn't raced since. Didn't take up a hurdles engagement at Sandown earlier this month, and the suspicion is that this race will bring him forward with jumping in mind. Had wind surgery.

Never in the hunt on handicap debut at Wolverhampton in July 2016 (7f), and absent ever since. Dropped 9lb, and tackles a longer trip than previously, but her fitness is taken solely on trust.

Never won beyond 7f during her career (Brighton and Lingfield), but you couldn't say definitively she didn't stay on her first attempt at this trip over C&D latest; finished 2¼L fourth to Just Fred. Worth another go over 1m2f.

Sits on his lowest handicap mark since February 2015 (46), which is a further 8lb lower than when winning over C&D in February 2017. Beaten by Outlaw Torn latest, but better off at the weights today, so has possibilities.

Sharp Operatorh5
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-2| J: William Carson| T: C Wallis| OR:  45
8/1
Remains a maiden after 12 career starts, and that implies he's not all that sharp an operator. That said; he finished 1½L third to Outlaw Torn over C&D three starts back, and could potentially reverse placings on 5lb better terms.

Norwegian Reward22
Age: 10|  Weight: 9-2| J: F Norton| T: L Allan| OR:  45| D
12/1
Veteran ex-Norwegian then Channel Islands racer. Won twice for Michael Wigham in 2012 but has failed to hit the target since. Back from a lengthy absence earlier in the month (7f), when tailed off at odds of 150/1 in a seller.

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-2| J: Poppy Bridgwater(7)| T: D G Bridgwater| OR:  45

Mediocre in four starts so far, and appears light on ability. Unsuccessfully tried the handicapping route for the first time at Kempton last week (1m), and is very quickly upped in trip now.

Our Kim33
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Tim Clark(3)| T: J Butler| OR:  45
8/1
A ten race maiden, but he found some improvement on his penultimate start over C&D in December when beaten a neck by Huddersfilly Town. Not quite so good next time over C&D, and another to see the rear of Outlaw Torn.

Babettev6
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: Robbie Walsh(7)| T: Ian Williams| OR:  45| BF
7/2
An eleven race maiden who has dropped 11lb since being allocated a handicap mark in August 2017. Placed, beaten 3L, over the extended mile at Wolverhampton on her penultimate start, she tries 1m2f for the first time today.

Tilsworth Lukey38
Age: 5|  Weight: 9-2| J: Gina Mangan(7)| T: J R Jenkins| OR:  45
10/1
Nine race maiden who makes little appeal. Time might conceivably tell that he needs this longer trip, as his dam was a 1m4f winner, but it'll undoubtedly pay to wait and see.

Forecasts

Babette (7/2), Outlaw Torn (4/1), Tigerfish (5/1), Sharp Operator (8/1), Our Kim (8/1), Tilsworth Lukey (10/1), Norwegian Reward (12/1), Nouvelle Ere (14/1), Chorus Of Lies (14/1), Cliffmeena (16/1), Di's Pride (16/1)

14:45 Chelmsford City - 27 February 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Not all that many previous winners amongst this bunch, but that's not a claim that can be levelled at OUTLAW TORN having won twice already during the course of 2018. He's climbing the weights now, and truthfully might as well have had a walkover at Newcastle, but he's already dispatched a number of these horses over C&D recently including Sharp Operator, Our Kim and Nouvelle Ere. Both Tigerfish and Babette have to prove their worth over 1m2f (latter named has raced over further in the past for Alan Bailey), and with the rest not all that convincing, we'll opt to stick with the Richard Guest trained top-weight.
  1. Outlaw Torn
  2. Nouvelle Ere
  3. Babette
