4/6
Useful hurdler who landed a hat-trick over the smaller obstacles at Doncaster in March 2017 (2m soft). Made a winning chasing debut (2m1f Listed) at Bangor in November, but back hurdling since, and far from disgraced in strong company in Ireland.

20/1
A Newcastle regular who landed some good bets when winning over hurdles here in February 2017 (2m), and ended the season with further success at Hexham. Reasonable, but not exactly thriving over fences, and the first time visor is applied.

No denying that Sedgefield is his track, and he's generally strongest when tackling further than this 2m trip. Fell in two of his last three starts over hurdles, and finished last of four on chasing debut in late January.

150/1
Low grade handicapper who is a 27 race maiden under rules, and hasn't always convinced in terms of his attitude. No chance barring accidents at these weights.

85/40
A likeable mare who has plenty of ability, earning a rating of 130 over hurdles after a trio of victories (including on heavy). Entitled to improve for her chasing debut at Catterick (beaten 9L by Totalize) but she was rather guessy at some fences.

Forecasts

Lady Buttons (4/6), Kelka (85/40), Bollin Ace (9/1), Applaus (20/1), Under The Red Sky (150/1)

14:10 Newcastle - 24 February 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

LADY BUTTONS is a classy mare, and she has rediscovered her sparkle over the past 13 months or so. She impressed on her Bangor chasing debut in November in a stronger contest than this race (Listed), and has been far from disgraced over hurdles in a couple of trips to Leopardstown since. Kelka is the obvious danger, but whilst she's a likeable mare overall, and fully entitled to improve on her chasing debut at Catterick, she did take a chance at a couple of fences there, and she won't get away with similar antics around Newcastle.
  1. Lady Buttons
  2. Kelka
  3. Bollin Ace
