Fine effort when fourth behind Apple's Jade in Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham last season and third in Listed Chepstow contest on final start. Just one run this term, tailed off over fences at Chepstow in October. Stays this trip if able to show best.

Fine novice hurdler in 2015/16, including the Grade 1 Challow over 2m4½f here before losing unbeaten record when fourth in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham. Off more than a year since being pulled up on chase bow, big player if ability retained.

Progressive staying hurdler during 2016 but has been sidelined for 428 days ahead of this run. Handicapper has given him a chance and trainer has his string in super form. One to note in betting.

Good winner at Wincanton (2m5f, good) in November, was held when falling at Wincanton on Boxing Day over similar trip in heavy ground. Unexposed over this longer trip and could be a player if stamina holds out. One of two for trainer.

Scored pair of 2m3f wins at Doncaster and Warwick in May to start career over jumps, may have needed reappearance at Doncaster (2m5f) in December when travelling well for long way before tiring. Second Alan King runner, yard in fine tune lately.

Jumping (left) let him down on chase debut at Ascot in November when favourite for 3m novice handicap chase. Reverts back to hurdles with cheekpieces added first time. Should be capable of mounting a challenge.

Showed liking for a stamina test when scoring second hurdles success at Warwick (3m2f, heavy) 16 days ago, goes up 9lb for that win and while not discounted could do with sharpening up his hurdling technique.

Produced best effort when second in Doncaster maiden hurdle over 2m5f (soft) early last month. Winner gave that form a nice boost when scoring wide-margin Towcester success on Thursday and not one to discount readily from a fair mark.

Forecasts

Barters Hill (11/4), Bastien (9/2), King Uther (5/1), Lough Derg Farmer (5/1), Talkischeap (8/1), The Eaglehaslanded (8/1), Book of Gold (10/1), Indian Stream (14/1)

13:50 Newbury - 10 February 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A race that potentially revolves around the once smart novice BARTERS HILL. Big things were anticipated for him last season over fences but a tendon problem ensured he never got off the ground. His trainer has shown great patience to bring him back and with the yard in super form this week, he can take care of these rivals if retaining his ability. Book Of Gold ran very well in a Doncaster maiden last month and that looks a solid effort given the winner ran out an easy winner at Towcester this week, he has place claims now sent handicapping over this longer trip. Both Alan King runners have their merits, with preference for Talkischeap, who ran well for a long way at Doncaster on reappearance and could improve on his switch to handicaps. Lough Derg Farmer was undone by his jumping at Ascot over fences last time and could bounce back over timber for the champion handler.
