6/5
Dual bumper winner who improved on her respectable hurdle debut with success over C&D (soft) last time. Good claimer almost negates her penalty for that and she should be a leading player once again.
Very moderate form in bumpers and was sent off at 250-1 before unseating at the first on her hurdles debut at Chepstow last time. Others readily preferred.

Made frame in a Galway bumper for Gordon Elliott last summer but otherwise moderate in that discipline and reinforced that when never in it and pulled up on stable/hurdles debut at Exeter last time. Best watched.
4
Horse silk
100/1
Showing signs of steady improvement with best of three runs at Southwell (good) in November, when 7½L fifth of 13. That form not strong enough to threaten in this, but with further improvement she might be able to.

Posted a couple of modest efforts in bumpers but worse still in a C&D maiden hurdle (soft) last week, when never in it and beaten 66L. The education process continues today.

Won on soft on the Flat (1m) for Mick Appleby. Ran well for a long way on hurdles debut at Catterick (1m7½f, soft) last month before weakening after second last. Should be capable of bettering that this time.

Made a reasonable start to racing life in a Lingfield bumper this time last year, but form tailed off since. As a half-sister to a couple of hurdles winners she may improve for this switch to timber, but probably best watched this time.

Came closest to success in a Wolverhampton maiden (1m½f, AW) 13-months ago, but had a poor 2017 in that sphere. Carried out when leading four out on hurdles debut over C&D in November. Probably one to watch gain.

Showed promise in bumpers without winning one and it has been the same so far over hurdles, her more recent effort at Southwell (1m7½f, good) in November being her better one. Handles soft and looks a leading contender again on that evidence.

Well held in a couple of bumpers for David Loder last season, but improved on that on debut for this stable at Southwell (1m7½f, good) in November. Bred to do better over hurdles and market check looks prudent.

Horse silk
6/1
Improved a bit on some solid bumper form when making the frame on her hurdling debut at Uttoxeter (2m, good) in November, staying on quite well without threatening to win. Soft ground could suit and she looks a likely improver.
13
Horse silk
33/1
Dual Flat winner at up to 1m2f for William Haggas. 125-1 for her hurdles/stable debut at Newbury (2m½f, soft) last month and never involved, beaten 45L. Should be able to build on that this time, though hard to make a case for her.

Horse silk
16/1
Two of her three bumper runs were decent efforts, both on soft ground, though she has not yet bettered that in two hurdles runs. No reason why she can't improve and she will need to if she is to finish in the money again today.

Horse silk
40/1
Had shown promise in Irish point-to-point without winning either, but there was little spark in anything she produced for Henry De Bromhead, including in two hurdles. Now makes debut for new stable and a watching brief is the advice.

Placed in several Irish maidens at up to 1m4f (some on testing ground) on the Flat. Never a threat on debut over hurdles for this yard at Taunton (2m½f, soft) last month, but not a bad effort there and can build on it this time.

13:00 Ludlow - 18 January 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

On paper it looks unlikely that many of these will be involved at the business end and the vote goes to PASSING CALL, whose ½L defeat last time looks decent form in context and she is probably capable of going one better. Melangerie is very much respected under her penalty with James Bowen claiming a very useful 5lb, while a very competitive effort from Secret Escape on her hurdles debut is anticipated. Quine Des Champs, The Mistress and Rouergate all have a bit of improving to do, but that is not ruled out.
  1. Passing Call
  2. Melangerie
  3. Secret Escape
