Some useful form in maiden/novice company last year and far from disgraced on reappearance at Sandown last month, although looked less than cooperative at times. Talent is there but temperament slightly under suspicion now.

Wasn't far behind My Boy James at Sandown last time but looked ready for a step back up in trip there, so this may not yet be enough of a stamina test unless they go quick. Drying ground a help, though, and not totally ruled out.

Won back-to-back handicaps last summer but has found life a lot harder since the handicapper had his say, and recent efforts less encouraging. Not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Plenty of promise to be taken from two efforts in novice hurdles at Market Rasen last year, and ran a little better than finishing position suggested at Ascot on hurdles debut. Should progress and if handling slower ground, has a chance.

Has caught the eye in novice hurdles and looked the type to do better once handicapped, possibly unlucky not to win on debut (fell last) and given winner there rated 120, looks nicely treated today. One of the more interesting ones.

Quite highly tried latest, definite signs of promise in a staying novice hurdle here in November but on that, a question as to whether this will be enough of a test. Nevertheless, yard can get them ready for handicaps first time and demands respect.

Looks nicely treated if you take the form of his bumper win literally, but mixed efforts over hurdles and hurdling technique not always the best. Likely to need this after a year off, and yard still not totally firing on all cylinders either.

Starting to look disappointing after being a beaten favourite a few too many times for comfort, and well beaten off at Herford latest. Drop back in trip may help but plenty to prove now.

Looks well treated on the form of his two chase wins last year, needed first run back at Ascot in November but much better when fourth in a novice hurdle at Lingfield last time, catching the eye. Good jockey booking and has chances.

Bumper winner at Towcester last year (at 25/1) but done little since then, although not totally disgraced at Wetherby last time. Needs a step forward and to that end, tongue tie may help, but comes with risks now.

Looks very well treated on this mark if Flat form is any guide (rated in the 80s) and although he's not shown much over hurdles to date, is with a top yard and it'll be a major surprise if he doesn't improve at some point. Drying ground a help.

Looked all over the winner on latest handicap start, travelled well and only caught late on. Drop back in trip could help, likely ground no issue, and another decent effort looks on the cards.

Placed in point-to-points, did the job nicely on hurdles handicap debut at Chepstow last time although that was only a weak race, and the handicapper has his say with a 9lb rise, but yard in good form and could easily progress again.

Had shown glimmers of ability in novice/maiden company before his second on handicap debut at Southwell, although winner there is only moderate and form needs improving on. Unproven on soft ground too.

Would pick this lot up on the best of his form but a tale of woe recently and he shows no signs of being able to take advantage of a lenient handicap mark. Others readily preferred.

Useful at middle distances on the Flat but hasn't shown much aptitude for the job over hurdles so far, and was well beaten on latest start. Hard to make a solid case for.

Went mighty close to springing a 66/1 surprise in a Kempton handicap hurdle when last seen (in February), but that was over 5f further and he's not been seen since then. Asking a lot after such an absence to score.

Fourth at Wincanton on latest start his best run for a while, but even then threw a winning opportunity away, taking his tally to 0-15. Looks an unlikely winner, but may challenge for places if on best behaviour.

12:40 Warwick - 13 January 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A few of these look likely to do better now going into handicaps and top of that list is EQUUS MILLAR, probably a little unlucky not to have already shed his maiden tag, jumped better when fourth at Bangor last time and should be able to operate off this mark with ease. Boss Mans Ladder may be next best, and his chance will increase if there's a good pace on (All Is Good, himself quite interesting, looks the likely pace in the race), with Shroughmore Lass rounding out the three.
  1. Equus Millar
  2. Boss Mans Ladder
  3. Shroughmore Lass
