Age: 4|  Weight: 11-4| J: N D Fehily| T: H Fry| D
3/1
Cost £37,000 as a three-year-old, and was a clear cut debut scorer in the valuable Spring Sales bumper at Newbury in March (2m) when beating Midnight Stroll by 3½L. Fascinating to see how he progresses with future targets in mind.

€22,000 foal who wasn't well found in the market (6/1) on debut in a Class 6 bumper at Lingfield last month, but he produced a scintillating performance to destroy his rivals by 10L (posting a strong finishing sectional). Up in class on turf bow.

Unbeaten in two starts, which includes a 3m Punchestown point-to-point. Sold for £260,000 last month following his Galway bumper success for Peter Fahey in late April, and this Getaway gelding looks a horse of immense potential.

£21,000 purchase in June, and looks a snip based on the evidence of his Cheltenham October rules success, where he beat subsequent Sandown hurdles scorer Ainchea by 1¼L. Might not have such a fitness edge over his rivals here, but respected.

Hidden Glen57
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-4| J: D A Jacob| T: B Pauling| D
16/1
Cost €47,000 as a three-year-old, and this Stowaway gelding made a winning start in a low-key Southwell bumper in October when justifying favouritism to down Ravensdale by 2L. More needed in a very competitive bumper.

Kateson39
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-4| J: R Johnson| T: T Lacey| BF| D
14/1
Showed signs of greeness when scoring on debut at Chepstow in October (2m good) but performed with a degree of credit despite being beaten under a penalty at Carlisle latest (2m1f soft). A nice sort for hurdling, but looks vulnerable in bumpers now.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Adrian Heskin| T: W Greatrex| BF| D
5/1
Well related, so cost €53,000 as a three-year-old. Made a winning start at Uttoxeter in March (2m soft), and went down all guns blazing over C&D last month when beaten a neck by Nestor Park. Solid, but more required in this race.

Strong Glance46
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-4| J: Alain Cawley| T: F O'Brien| D
20/1
Another horse who hails from the 'go-to' yard in bumpers these days, and this Passing Glance gelding was an impressive debut scorer at Southwell early last month. (2m good). However, this race represents a significant step up the ladder.

Unraced Sholokhov gelding out the 1m2f German winner La Julie who cost £45,000 as a three-year-old. Has a pedigree which suggests that he could do well in bumpers, but he couldn't face a fiercer baptism of fire than this race.
Once raced Scorpion gelding who is a half-brother to the winning stayer Moss On the Mill. Has the potential to improve moving forward, but needs to do so in order to reverse C&D placings with Portrush Ted; and even that mightn't be enough here.

Horse silk
40/1
Third foal by Gold Well, and a half-brother to bumper/2m4f hurdle winner Westendorf. Made a winning debut at Southwell earlier this month (Class 5) when beating Rebel Commander by 4½L. Improvement likely, but almost certainly a necessity.

Horse silk
33/1
Demoted to third by the stewards (finished second) after a good three way battle on debut at Chepstow last month. This €35,000 foal would rate as a real live contender with natural progression in any other bumper bar this contest.
Runner up on debut at Stratford in May, but out-performed all reasonable market expectations (25/1) when a hampered and keeping on 2¾L third to Crooks Peak in a Listed Cheltenham bumper last month (2m soft). Yet more progress required.

Horse silk
9/2
Receives weight from her rivals as the sole filly in the line up, but no doubting she's a classy horse. Unbeaten in both starts (Aintree and Cheltenham-Mares Listed) since costing £135,000 in March, she rates as a key player on ground which suits.

Forecasts

Bullionaire (3/1), Posh Trish (9/2), Portrush Ted (5/1), Gallahers Cross (8/1), Herecomestheboom (8/1), Didtheyleaveuoutto (10/1), Woulduadamandeveit (10/1), Kateson (14/1), Hidden Glen (16/1), Strong Glance (20/1), West To The Bridge (33/1), Two For Gold (40/1), The Flying Sofa (50/1), The Raven's Return (66/1)

15:40 Ascot - 22 December 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A race to truly savour, this contest promises to be every bit as strong as the Champion Bumper in March, and features a group of hugely exciting young horses who have already amassed 13 successes between them (point-to-points and bumpers). Posh Trish doesn't duck the challenge of taking on the boys, and she appears a live contender in receipt of weight (3lb) from the others. Summing up such a deep contest succinctly is tricky, so in opting to merely list some of the most obvious contenders, we almost certainly fail to do them justice. It would be no surprise whatsoever should either Bullionaire, Gallahers Cross or Herecomestheboom prevail, but the horse who made the biggest impression of all on debut; albeit in a much weaker race was DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO. Whilst this race is on turf, and a far cry from a Class 6 bumper at Lingfield (AW), the clock seldom lies, and the JP McManus owned four-year-old posted some good figures in a visually scintillating success, so rates as the selection in what for many is the race of the day on an otherwise fine Ascot card.
  1. Didtheyleaveuoutto
  2. Posh Trish
  3. Herecomestheboom
