Mach Onep8(ex 6)
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-12| J: Edward Greatrex| T: A Watson| OR:  70| CD
11/8
In blinding form on synthetics since early October, with all surfaces coming alike. Beaten a nose on his Fibresand debut over C&D in November, he was a strong finishing winner here last week (beat Muqarred by 1½L) and returns under the 6lb penalty.

Saves his better efforts for Southwell (C&D winner in October), and is roundabout his optimum handicap mark. Worn down late on by Mach One over C&D last week, but clashes again quickly on 6lb better terms for 1½L.

Hasn't won in over a year (7f Southwell), and the blinkers/eye-shields combo were tried for the first time last week when finishing 4¾L fourth to Mach One. Needs to find fractionally more if to reverse those placings.

Attractively handicapped these days from 4lb lower than his last winning mark (over C&D in March 2016). Beaten 1¼L by Medici Moon here latest, and despite nudging back up a couple of pounds, could have a minor role to play.

Broke her duck at the 22nd attempt here over 7f in late October (maiden), beating Nellie's Dancer by 7L. The handicapper has left her relatively untouched for that success, and given that she stays further that looks a risky strategy.

Lightly raced overall, but hasn't really shown much since his debut success here in April 2016 (5f). Slipped down the weights 10lb since early October and that's clearly helpful for the longer term.

His sole career success came for Mick Channon at odds of 2/9 at Salisbury in August 2016 (7f). Sold for 10,000 gns in October, and finished last of eight over further on his stable debut at Wolverhampton recently.

Generally progressive at a lower level, and comfortably accounted for Red Touch when scoring over C&D on his penultimate start. However, this front runner was well beaten by Mach One off this revised mark here last week, so needs to deliver more.

Forecasts

Mach One (11/8), Red Touch (7/2), Muqarred (13/2), Mama Africa (11/1), Sumner Beach (12/1), Medici Moon (14/1), Tigerwolf (16/1), Captain Revelation (20/1)

13:00 Southwell - 19 December 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A number of Southwell regulars, many of whom are likely to be on first name terms with one another. Mach One accounted for Muquarred, Captain Revelation and Medici Moon when scoring over C&D last week. Turned out quickly under a 6lb penalty, he probably only has the Roger Fell trained runner to worry about at the revised terms. Red Touch is attractively handicapped and should make full use of that fact eventually, but perhaps not against these rivals. However, in a reasonably competitive contest, a speculative play is the three-year-old filly MAMA AFRICA. She's taken plenty of time to come good, but galloped her rivals into submission when winning a 7f maiden here in October. She stays this longer trip, and looks on a reasonable mark assuming she doesn't overdo it in the battle for the lead with Medici Moon.
  1. Mama Africa
  2. Mach One
  3. Muqarred
