Dual-purpose performer who won his first two starts on the Flat for his current yard but the handicapper soon reeled him in. Outclassed in the Cesarewitch last time but may not be far away if taking to the tapeta surface.
Completed a hat-trick of wins in January, two of them over 1m6f at this venue. Has found it much tougher going off higher marks since, though not disgraced over 1m4f here latest. Stamina queries over this longer trip.
Won here on his debut for this yard over 1m4f in July (only previous visit) and also scored over 1m4f at Kempton in September. Encouraging first attempt at 2m when third there last month and should remain competitive.
Lightly raced since winning over 1m3f at Kempton March. Doing well for this yard and proved a revelation in a first-time visor when dotting up over 2m lat Kempton last month. Obvious claims despite a 6lb rise.
Experienced campaigner who took full advantage of a falling mark when bolting up over 2m at Southwell last month. Couldn't follow-up under a penalty over this C&D a week later but a potential threat if bringing his A game.
Former French racer who was off the mark on these shores at odds of 50/1 at Newbury in mid July (extended 1m5f). Struggled on softer ground at Haydock last time out and something to prove over a longer trip after a break.
Finally obliged at the 11th time of asking when winning a maiden over 1m6f here in good style last month. Held off lower marks than this in earlier handicaps, so still a fair bit to prove, though longer trip may be of benefit.
Deservedly got off the mark at the seventh attempt when landing a maiden over an extended 1m5f Chelmsford in October. Likely he has more to offer over this longer trip and entitled to respect on his handicap debut.
Landed two staying handicaps either side of last Christmas at Chelmsford but the handicapper has held sway since. Didn't show enough at Newmarket last month to suggest a return to winning ways was imminent despite a falling mark.
Only win from 22 starts so far came at Southwell almost two years ago and he looks to be broadly regressive. Falling mark reflects that but latest effort at Southwell was particularly poor.
Forecasts
Captain Navarre (9/4), Gabrial's Star (5/1), Silver Link (11/2), Steaming (6/1), Frederic (7/1), Royal Reserve (8/1), Start Seven (12/1), Ruler Of The Nile (20/1), Lost The Moon (25/1), Takbeer (25/1)
Charlie Fellowes seems to have revitalised CAPTAIN NAVERRE and, given the emphatic manner of his victory over 2m at Kempton, it was a surprise to see him raised just 6lb. A follow-up is very much on the cards, though recent Chelmsford winner Streaming looks a live danger on his handicap debut along with Royal Reserve who was a winner on his only previous visit here.
