Not easy to win with, though has three to his name at up to 1m3½f. Acts with cut, though stamina over this far still not fully proven. Check the market, though this may be a prep race for a return to hurdles.
Won on soft ground in France last year before proving to be a flop over hurdles. Has shown a little more of late for this yard, including when tried over 2m last time. Further 3lb drop and marked drop in class will help and could go well.
Scored over C&D on soft ground in September. A 2lb rise to his current mark saw him find one too good at Catterick last time, although he was beaten 14L. Nonetheless, a repeat of his winning effort here should see him in the mix.
Has been making steady improvements in recent races, winning his last two at Yarmouth (1m3½f, good) and Kempton (1m4f, AW). Up another 5lb for the latest, though claimer negates that and remains of interest over new longer trip.
Stays this trip on a sound surface and acts with cut in the ground, although yet to get this far with cut underfoot. Won't have a much better chance of doing so than here, now 4lb lower than his Ripon win in June. Interesting.
Had her problems after showing promise in Irish maidens in 2014, including on soft, having only raced twice since. Was taken out of two races in June before joining this yard, who can do well with types like this. Check the market for clues.
Stays 2m and has been a great servant in winning 11 races, mainly where stamina has been the key. This trip looks slightly short of his best, while he has also never won on genuine soft ground and the latter has to be a big concern going into this.
The only time he has made the frame in nine starts the going was described as heavy, so he should not mind the forecast conditions. Would have a squeak if able to reproduce that effort, though stamina looks like it could be an issue over this far.
Scored over this trip at Bath in August when just 3lb lower. Well held all three runs since. Acts on soft and has the ability to get involved from this mark. Should be better for a return to this trip than the 1m4f last time. Not ruled out.
Has shown very poor form in all five starts to date at trips from 7f-1m4f, including when beaten 13½L on her stable debut last time. Cheekpieces now swapped for blinkers and certainly has stamina in her pedigree, so could see some improvement.
Made the frame on heavy at Carlisle (1m3f) in September, although was then taken out on soft at Pontefract last month. Well beaten over shorter last time and now stepped up markedly in trip. May stay, but has that and ability on soft to prove.
Forecasts
Four Kingdoms (5/4), Jan De Heem (3/1), Affair (6/1), Unonothinjonsnow (10/1), Apalis (12/1), La Bacouetteuse (14/1), Leopard (20/1), Pantomime (33/1), Pertuis (50/1), Shalamzar (66/1), Dance With Kate (66/1)
Moderate fayre where it would not surprise to see a much better effort from Dance With Kate, while Four Kingdoms is very much respected along with Jan De Heem and Pertuis. Affair can't be dismissed lightly, though it might be worth chancing APALIS, who takes a drop in class and in trip and handles soft ground.
