Despite understandable greenness he did well to win over this trip on debut at Thirsk (soft) last month, when sent off at 12-1. Steps up a notch here and has a penalty to carry, but may well improve and is short-listed.

Beaten 14½L by Air Raid on debut at Thirsk, but learned quickly and won next time at Pontefract (6f, heavy). Penalised for that now and will need to find a fair few pounds again to be able to repeat the dose in this field.

20/1
Carlisle debut maiden winner (6f, good to soft) in August, though he was way off that form when stepped up to 7f on soft at Thirsk in a novices' contest last time. Visor now applied. Probably has the ability if he can put that second run to bed.

Improved on his Newmarket debut when a ½L runner-up at Ascot (7f, soft) last time. May well have won that but hung both left and right in the closing stages. Should know more now and looks a serious contender.

Refused to race here in the Group 3 Molecomb in August, but either side of that has performed with credit to be runner-up twice over 6f at Pontefract (soft) and last time at Newcastle (AW). With a bit more improvement he should again be thereabouts.

Slowly away and never in it on debut at Newmarket (7f, good to soft) last month, beating just the one home. Both that experience and the step up in trip should help him find some improvement, but looks one to watch this time.

Sent off at 8-1 when a little ponderous on debut, but gradually getting the hang of things to run 5L fourth of 12 at Kempton (6f, AW). This step up in trip could bring about some improvement and a market check is advised to gauge confidence.

Gelded prior to his two most recent runs and although that has not seen him improve in form, he has still run to the sort of level that gives him a shout in this field. Progress certainly not ruled out and each-way claims at the very least.

Took a marked step forward on previous form when beaten just 1¼L into second in a Redcar (7f, good to soft) maiden last time at 33-1. Step up in trip is probably a positive and connections clearly feel that he is worth chancing here without a mark.

33-1 on debut at Redcar (7f, good to soft) last month when she dwelt and was never on terms, beaten 17½L into last. Very hard to see her making the necessary improvement to have any impact this time.

Sent off at 50-1 on debut at Haydock (6f, heavy) last month and ran as the market suggested she would, being slow to get going and never in it. Will be hoping to show some signs of ability with that experience under her belt.

Sempre Presto24

Made a reasonable debut at Thirsk (1m, good to firm) last month and perhaps soft ground was against her when favourite but beaten 5½L at Beverley (7½f) last time. Could do better on decent ground and in receipt of weight from many here.

Forecasts

Agar's Plough (7/2), Air Raid (4/1), Chief Justice (11/2), Maghaweer (11/2), Mont Kinabalu (6/1), Epic Fantasy (8/1), Dawn Breaking (14/1), Cristal Spirit (14/1), Sunstorm (16/1), Highest Rank (20/1), Sempre Presto (28/1), Angel Carlotta (66/1), Marcella (66/1)

16:25 York - 14 October 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Air Raid perhaps surprised a few people when scoring on debut and so with improvement entirely possible, he again has claims under his penalty. Chief Justice and Sempre Presto could both go well for the Fahey stable, while others of interest are Mont Kinabalu, Epic Fantasy and Highest Rank. However, the suggestion for the win is AGAR'S PLOUGH, who scuppered his chance of winning through greenness at Ascot, but can go one better this time.
  1. Agar's Plough
  2. Air Raid
  3. Mont Kinabalu
