Won three times during May and June, and can be generally relied upon to run his race at this track. However, his form has tailed off a fraction after the inevitable rise in the weights, and needs a career best to score.

Generally strongest over 6f, but proved himself to be a rock-solid performer here last winter (C&D winner in September 2016). Carried that form into the turf campaign, but has eased off a fraction more latterly. Claims from his last winning mark.

Veteran of 90 races (just three starts on the AW). Unable to follow up his 2016 Doncaster success when seventh of 15 to Somewhere Secret in the 2017 renewal last month. First run on the AW since May 2010 (all at Southwell).

Finished fifth to Paddy Power at Pontefract latest (5f heavy), and Gamesome puts that form to the test in the previous race. A 5f winner at Beverley in June (form solid) who is lightly raced on the AW and open to progression.

Landed a touch when bolting up in a C&D maiden in January. Not progressed on turf since a fair second at Nottingham in April, but looks of obvious interest back on this surface on his first outing since late May.

Fairly consistent overall, and backed up a decent Catterick effort when winning at Musselburgh (5f good to firm) in early September, beating Noah Amour by ¾L. Not so sharp latest on heavy ground, but handles this track without problems.

Back from 11 months off with victory at Nottingham in April (5f good to firm). Not entirely disgraced in five subsequent starts, and races from his last winning mark over a C&D that he finished runner up over in May 2016 (in a novice stakes).

Not won since May 2016, but fairly solid over 6f on turf earlier in the campaign, and third to Meshardal on his latest start at Catterick in July. Back from a break, but not shown much on the AW in two previous attempts.

Has posted some reasonable efforts from similar marks since winning at Thirsk in April (6f good to firm), but is perhaps in the grip of the assessor hence a recent drop into claiming company. Makes just his second career AW start.

Went close on her AW debut over C&D in May (third to Intense Romance) and has improved since then, winning at Haydock in July. However, not so sharp most latterly and a few questions to be answered now.

Was 3¾L too strong for Landing Light on her penultimate start at Catterick in July, but she's 7lb higher in the weights now. Only a moderate effort at Doncaster latest, and won just once from 20 starts on the AW.

A winner of 12 races on turf, but not since June 2016 (5f at Chester), so has edged slowly back down the weights. Entitled to have needed his 2017 comeback at Chester last month (stable debut), and is switched to the AW seeking more.

Won on the Kempton Polytrack for Sir Michael Stoute back in 2013 and has since went onto become a solid handicapper for various trainers. Very well treated now on past course form, and was a solid third over 6f here recently to Athollblair Boy.

20:00 Newcastle - 10 October 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A positive effort from Gamesome in Division 1 half an hour earlier will boost the already alluring claims held by the Declan Carroll trained Musharrif. He has been in good form, and is open to further progression now switched back to Tapeta. Duke Cosimo is very well handicapped these days, and should he have the required toe over this sharper trip, he should be knocking on the door after a pleasing third to Athollblair Boy recently (6f). Aprovado is another horse who is best suited by a longer trip, but it would be no surprise to see this likeable Newcastle proven performer bounce right back to form at his favoured track, but by far the most interesting runner is SCUZEME. He has always been well regarded, but had testicle troubles as a juvenile so didn't fulfil his potential. He bolted up in a C&D maiden (gelded) in January and has been raced sparingly since then, but at his very best is potentially a cut above these rivals.
