Scored over 6f at Ripon and this trip at Goodwood last year. Well held on his sole start this term and a 2lb drop plus that reappearance should enable him to finish closer again this time. Conditions ideal.

Has seen plenty of action this year, his most recent success being over this trip at Chelmsford (AW) in February. Out of sorts largely in higher grades since then, he looks in need of assistance from the handicapper.

Put together back-to-back wins on good/good to soft ground this time last year, both over 6f. Held by the handicapper since then, but a drop in the weights coincided with a better effort here over C&D last time. Claims from 2lb lower.

Up 4lb for a good effort here when 1½L runner-up over 1m½f last time. Has already won over that C&D this season and over today's trip at Brighton, so no problem dropping back. Needs to find a little more, but claims nonetheless.

Was last on his only visit to this venue and goes very well at Brighton, where he has won twice this season over 6f/7f. Carries a penalty here for his latest win there and ran well under it on Monday. Should not be far away if effective here.

Same mark here as when putting in a very good effort in a class 2 event at Chelmsford (7f, AW) last time. Had previously scored at both Ffos Las and Brighton over this sort of trip and looks likely to be a leading contender.

Was a 6f winner at Thirsk in May (good to firm) but has been in the grip of the assessor since. Well beaten here over 6f last time, he now steps up in trip and drops 1lb. Should be competitive if he sees it out.

Raised 3lb for a ½L success over C&D last time. Looked as though there could be more to come that day and she has solid claims in her follow-up bid.

In good form of late and scored over 6f at Salisbury (good to firm) in June. A nudge up in the weights for that has seen him remain competitive, though unable to win again and the same outcome looks likely today.

On same mark today as when winning at Brighton (7f, good to firm) in June. Unable to handle higher marks since and disappointed back at Brighton last time. Good ground may help, while hood offers possibilities, but has a bit to prove.

In good form this season, winning over this trip at Newbury and being placed three times, including last time at Salisbury. Conditions are ideal and cheekpieces may help raise things a notch, which is what is needed from this mark.

Forecasts

Bumptious (9/4), Lord Clenaghcastle (9/2), Scofflaw (7/1), Favourite Royal (7/1), Colonel Frank (8/1), Munfallet (10/1), Black Caesar (10/1), Limelite (12/1), Gold Hunter (20/1), Outer Space (25/1), El Torito (66/1)

14:00 Epsom Downs - 14 September 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Colonel Frank is capable of better than he showed last time and could return to form here, while Munfallet was on his way back last time and should be in the mix. Bumptious is in cracking form and can go well, although from a betting perspective Limelite makes each-way appeal at longer odds. Favourite Royal, Black Caesar and Scofflaw are others likely to be very competitive, but preference is for LORD CLENAGHCASTLE, who is still going the right way and can find the necessary improvement to add another win.
  1. Lord Clenaghcastle
  2. Bumptious
  3. Limelite
