Jo's Girl28
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-7| J: D C Costello| T: J A Osborne| OR:  70
7/1
Stayed on without ever threatening when third of nine to Wildnightinvegas at Brighton last month (7f) and switched into nursery company for the first time. Broadly not fulfilled her £42,000 purchase price so far, but time is on her side.

Northern Law25
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-7| J: David Egan(5)| T: J & S Quinn| OR:  70
3/1
Had been broadly progressive before a below par effort at Musselburgh last month, but a switch to nurseries might bring about further improvement and has an excellent young 5lb claimer booked to ride.

Move To The Frontb57
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-6| J: A Kirby| T: C G Cox| OR:  69

Yet to race beyond 6f in three starts and wouldn't necessarily appear to be screaming out for a step up in trip. However has shown enough to suggest that he has ability and represents powerful owners.

Gabrial The Devil22
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: D Tudhope| T: D O'Meara| OR:  68

Much like many of this field hasn't exactly thrived so far, including when upped to 7f at Ayr latest. Hails from a shrewd stable so worthy of market inspection on handicap debut.

Age: 2|  Weight: 9-3| J: Kevin Lundie(5)| T: R C Guest| OR:  66
20/1
Five race maiden who has shown few obvious signs of progress since switched into nurseries. Finished last of eight to Noble Manners over this trip at Newmarket latest (restless in the stalls) and comes with risks attached.

Shovel It On13
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-10| J: P J McDonald| T: P D Evans| OR:  59| BF
5/1
Five race maiden who could only finish third to quickfire previous winner Placebo Effect when favourite for a Catterick seller (7f soft) in late July. However, connections were clearly keen to keep hold of him (made a 'friendly claim' of £7,000).

Dark Blue17
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-8| J: J F Egan| T: M R Channon| OR:  57
6/1
Had three quick runs (over the course of a month) in order to qualify for a handicap mark, and appears to be learning as she goes. Has a little to find with Jo's Girl on form from Brighton in July, but no real surprise if she does so in a moderate contest.

Progressive Jazz31
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-5| J: Joey Haynes| T: K R Burke| OR:  54
33/1
No show in three starts so far, beating only a singe rival home in those races at Beverley and Thirsk. Needs to step forward massively on handicap debut in order to play a hand in the finish.

Milan Reef19
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-4| J: Josephine Gordon| T: D Loughnane| OR:  53
16/1
Started at large odds on all three starts to date and hasn't really given out too many signs of encouragement to suggest that improvement is likely on her handicap debut.

Forecasts

Northern Law (3/1), Gabrial The Devil (4/1), Shovel It On (5/1), Move To The Front (5/1), Dark Blue (6/1), Jo's Girl (7/1), Milan Reef (16/1), Situation (20/1), Progressive Jazz (33/1)

15:30 Leicester - 8 August 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

As is often the case in nurseries, this is as much of a guessing game as anything else. It is difficult to be wildly enthusiastic about any of this nine 'strong' field based upon what we've witnessed on track so far. However, there has to be a winner, and one horse will need to spring forward, so a speculative dart is thrown at the filly DARK BLUE in the hope that she's been very slow to come to hand and might well be able to reverse Brighton placings with Jo's Girl.
  1. Dark Blue
  2. Shovel It On
  3. Northern Law
