Had shown some fair form in maidens improving with each run and ran with credit on his handicap debut off what looked to be a stiff opening mark. Tried in cheekpieces for the first time on his last start and shaped better than the distance he was beaten (did too much early) over a mile at Newbury and worth a try over 7f here with blinkers on for the first time.

Her two runs this year have shown plenty of promise and she built on her initial maiden run of the year when taking a small field event at Beverley over 7f. Her experience stood her in good stead in her last race and she now steps into handicaps for the first time looking as though she is capable of winning off this mark.

His first run of the year at Windsor over 6f showed some promise with a third off what looked to be a workable mark of 66. Has run poorly twice since then though and showed little in his last two starts and hard to know what to expect here back to 7f.

Form so far in three maidens looks relatively modest and he steps into handicaps for the first time here having run over this trip twice before. Would need to step up a fair bit on what he has shown so far to take a hand here.

Has shown himself capable of winning in this grade when winning his penultimate start at Beverley (ran very free) over 7f having previously scored at Brighton over the same trip. Returned to the seaside course last time he failed to land the hat-trick off this mark (65) and it may well be that the handicapper has caught up with him.

Drawn rather wide here in a big field and that won't make life easy for this one who scored in a Wolverhampton 6f maiden on her first start of the year. Given a break after that she shaped as though she needed the run on her first start for this yard and didn't show much last time out. Moves back to 7f here for the first time since her juvenile campaign but others are preferred.

Twice already a winner this season over this trip the initial win coming on the AW at Wolverhampton (let in lightly by handicapper; looked an awkward ride). The second of his two wins at Salisbury also showed he was a difficult ride and that's been highlighted in his two runs since and not one to trust implicitly off a 5lb higher mark than his last win.

Contested what turned out to be a very good maiden on his two-year-old debut and always looked as though he would do better this year. Two runs in maidens this year have both come over further (1m2f last time) and he steps back to 7f here and looks interesting on his handicap debut although the trainer has a below-par record with his runners of this ilk.

Winner of a couple of low grade AW nurseries last year over 7f at Kempton Park off basement marks she resumed her progress with a win last time out returned to the same C&D beating Happy Escape. It should be closer between those two this time although Dragon Dream did win with a bit in hand but both need to show that they are as effective on turf.

Six starts so far have yielded very little (failed to even make the frame) and her handicap debut last time out looked a case of the mark of 63 being too much for her. Should have been suited by the 1m1f trip but steps back in trip here but others are much preferred despite the handicapper easing her 3lb.

19:05 Sandown - 19 July 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Not an easy contest to weigh up and for a three-year-old handicap there don’t look to be too may obvious improvers although handicaps debutante Harba looks an obvious contender although she is drawn a little wide. Happy Escape and Dragon Dream have to prove their effectiveness on turf but are closely matched on their running last time at Kempton Park. Pass The Cristal and Beepeecee both look held now by the handicapper and it may pay to take a chance with A SURE WELCOME who is another who has to prove himself on turf but is well drawn and travels well. Of the others top weight Milburn Jack is the one that catches the eye the most especially if he settles better in the first-time blinkers having run better than his final position at Newbury last time.
  1. A Sure Welcome
  2. Harba
  3. Milburn Jack
