Newcastle maiden winner (7f, AW) who has struggled to make an impact in two handicaps in a higher grade so far. This is a weaker contest and with a firs-time hood fitted and dropped back in trip, he looks capable of making more of an impact.

Won a Chelmsford maiden over this trip last year and put up a decent effort on his handicap debut at Lingfield (7f) in April. Not quite so good at Haydock last time (1m, good to firm), so this drop in class and trip, plus the addition of blinkers, might yield a more positive result.

Has put in a couple of good performances in defeat in maiden company over both 6f and more recently 5f at Yarmouth (good to firm) on her reappearance. Mark looks fair enough based on that and she could make her presence felt on her handicap intro.

Was thereabouts in two of his three maidens, his best effort being over 1m½f at Nottingham in April. 12-1 and a 3L seventh of 16 on his first step into handicap company at Ascot (1m, good to firm) last month. Dropped 1lb going into this with cheek pieces now added and he could again take closer order.

Won a 6f Nottingham maiden (good to firm) last year and returned to action with a positive third of 11 (beaten 4L) at Pontefract (6f, good to firm) last month. 1lb lower here and stepped back up in trip, he should be very competitive.

Won a Wolverhampton maiden (6f, AW) in March and made a good start to his handicapping career when beaten just a neck into third back over that C&D last month. Raised 2lb for that and returns to turf for the first time since his debut, but no reason why he can't improve.

Couldn't win a maiden, but struck on his first try in a handicap at Kempton (1m, AW) in January. Was not far away when dropped back to 7f next time, though couldn't handle a stronger race at Leicester last time. This is more like it and with a 3lb drop he can take a step back in the right direction.

Has shown improvement each time he has visited the track in maiden company and looks to have a fair mark for his handicap debut here. First run since being gelded and may be one to watch this time around, unless market particularly positive.

Won twice in August over 7f and 1m½f on All Weather surfaces, the latter from 9lb lower. His form later last season shows that he is capable of having a big say from this mark, though he might just find one or two too good.

Didn't really make much in the way of gains in three tries in maidens, running to a similar level each time and again on his handicap debut at Brighton (7f, good to firm) last time. 2b lower today, though looks in need of a further drop to be winning.

Three runs in 7f maidens brought about some improvement and he is kept to this trip now for his handicap debut. Is on the sort of mark that his trainer can definitely work with and is one to check on in the market on his reappearance from several months off.

Handicap debutante who has not shown quite as much as some of these in his three maidens, though may begin to do so in this sphere and now stepped up in trip.

Had three quick runs on the All Weather (1m, 6f, 7f) in December and has been put away until now. Begins on a nice enough mark, though may be one to watch this time after a break.

Not a huge amount for us to go on here, with plenty of the likely leading players making their handicap debuts and some others only having had one sighter. The suggestion is ENDLESS GOLD, who should appreciate this drop back in trip and may be able to do better for the fitting of cheek pieces. Native Soldier can show more now dropped in class, while Thaaqib, Halawain and Casina di Notte are others who cannot be ruled out.
