Just one win in 16 starts and looked unenthusiastic again when involved in a close finish over C&D three weeks ago. Up 3lb for that and others make more appeal.

Drops in grade having shown he was getting the hang of things before encountering traffic problems at Chelmsford last time. Relatively low mileage and goes on the shortlist.

Has found little for pressure on last couple of runs and also appears held on form by a few of these.

0-15 and has finished last on two most recent starts following reurrn from an eight month break. Would have claims on his 2016 form for previous yard and, market support for his two runs for his new trainer, suggest something may have been amiss.

Sole victory came here a year ago. That followed an encouraging reappearance and, similarly, he arrives for this having been noted making late headway to finish third here three weeks ago. He also gets a 3lb pull with New Abbey Angel with less than two lengths to find so he has plenty in his favour.

0-21 for this handler since being claimed out of Ed McMahon's yard in 2015. Offered some encouragement last time but he has flattered to deceive before.

Failed to get home over 1m4f last time on first run since being gelded. Trainer does well on his raids here and the market is usually a trusty guideline.

Different tactics employed without any positive effect as she finished last. Drops in distance and down in the weights but remains hard to recommend.

Without a win since 2013. Has been sprinting but had form over this trip in his early career. Noted finishing well here last time and the switch to a mile has some merit.

Well down the field in all three runs and makes handicap debut off a low mark. If she is any better than those initial runs suggest, then a market move can be expected.

Distant third in a poor race at Southwell and has toiled in two starts since. Blinkers now replaced by a hood and switches back to a mile. Yard are 1-48 around here.

One good effort in a claimer for Eve Johnson-Houghton is his only sign of ability. Has been poor for new yard and it has taken four runs for him to beat a rival home. Pedigree suggests some merit in stepping up to a mile.

Forecasts

New Abbey Angel (10/3), Captain Peaky (9/2), Joyful Star (5/1), Cosy Club (13/2), Midlight (10/1), Let Right Be Done (10/1), Rioja Day (14/1), New Decade (14/1), Coral Princess (16/1), Panther In Pink (25/1), Scannermandango (40/1), Warleggan (40/1)

19:40 Ayr - 31 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

New Abbey Angel can be expected to be thereabouts but his chances hinge on him being in a more co-operative mood than last time. New Decade and Cosy Club are interesting now reverting back to a mile. Captain Peaky showed he had dropped to a workable mark last time and a drop in grade should make him even more competitive. JOYFUL STAR arrives following a similar preparation to his sole success last year. His handicap mark looks more than fair and he looks a good shout to take this.
  1. Joyful Star
  2. Captain Peaky
  3. New Abbey Angel
