Showed up well in three successive AW maidens in the autumn/winter without winning any of them, before being last of 11, beaten 22L when returning after a break at Nottingham (1m2f, good) earlier in the month. Dropped 2lb since that and now heads up a weaker contest on paper, but will still need a fair bit more to win it.

Has shown an improved level of form since returning to turf for his last two starts at Goodwood (1m2f, good to firm) where he was beaten ½L and last time at Nottingham (1m2f, good), where he was 1L behind the winner. Up 4lb for that and back on fast ground again, he can go well from the inside lane.

Has not quite recaptured the form of his September debut run (Kempton, 7f maiden) in two subsequent starts, but was not far off that at Yarmouth (1m, good to firm) on his reappearance there last month. Now goes handicapping up in trip and from a workable mark, though concern that stable could be in better form at present.

Got off the mark at the 11th attempt when winning at Chelmsford (1m2f) from a mark of 58. Step up in trip to 1m4f couldn't combat a 7lb rise on his next two runs, but then went close back over this distance at Goodwood last time (good to firm). Up another 3lb for that but can't say he is beyond finding that improvement.

Has started at 33/1 and bigger on all four maiden starts from 7f to an extended 1m and not come close to winning one. Gelded since his last run in November and is related to winners at up to 1m3f, which augurs a little better for him on this step up in trip and into handicap company. Market check advised.

Sole win so far came in a Lingfield claimer (1m2f) in February when with Julia Feilden, before being claimed by this yard, for whom he has been handicapping. Made the frame both times, including his latest start at Pontefract (1m, good to firm) last month. On the same mark here and back up in trip. Interesting from a decent draw.

Has seen plenty of action since the turn of the year with seven starts yielding two wins, which have come at Lingfield (1m4f) and then last time out at Yarmouth (1m2f, good to firm). Raised 8lb for the latter, but front pair were 5L clear there, so he may still have a say now upped in class.

Has made the frame just once from eight starts. That was over this trip at Nottingham (good to firm) last month from a 2lb lower mark. Well beaten as favourite in a 1m Redcar handicap (good to firm) and a 1m2½f Chester maiden since. Drawn wide and not easy to get excited about his chances.

Not yet made the frame from eight attempts. Showed promise in a couple of 7f maidens last summer, one of them here. Gelded in the winter and ran well in first-time blinkers at Redcar (1m, good to firm) earlier in the month from 2lb higher. Beaten 7L on first try at this trip at Beverley last time and now blinkers refitted. Market check advised.

17:10 Haydock - 26 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Hugging The Rails went well in headgear a couple of starts back, although has to prove he gets this trip, but any market confidence for him would indicate that he is ready to go very well. Bartholemew J won with a fair bit in hand at Yarmouth and he now has an 8lb rise and a step up in class to deal with, but he remains short-list material. Critical Thinking and Moneyoryourlife are others with claims, while Fleetfoot Jack is a potential improver. However, ALEXANDER M has been building steadily in handicaps and now back on fast ground and with the inside pitch, he should go very close.
