Only seen on four occasions last year and well beaten each starts. May be a different prospect this year and it's encouraging that connections keep the fair but entitled to need this run.

Well suited to fast ground but only just touched off in softer conditions last time at Salisbury. Deservedly due to go up 2lb for that effort but trainer's record on the Flat over the past 12 months is a little uninspiring (1-68).

Well out of form on all recent starts and one needs to go back to Brighton this time last year to find his last win. Still above his last winning mark and not shown enough this season to be of interest here.

Reappearance on the AW was encouraging and good chance she'll come on for that. Two of her three wins have come in apprentice handicaps and she's capable from this mark.

C&D winner here in August in an apprentice handicap and returns off that same mark here. Had this jockey on for his last success and he's more experienced that plenty of his apprentice rivals. Should go well again.

Bit of a Bath specialist but he was a beaten favourite at that course last time and he's only placed once in six starts at this course. Still above his last winning mark and others make a little more appeal.

Not won since 2015 and only placed once in 12 starts for this yard. May need this run on return from a break and he would appear to be on the downgrade.

17 starts without a win now, several of those runs with this jockey on board. While he's back on his last winning mark, he's not been in the kind of form that suggests he's about to get back on the scoresheet.

29-race maiden operating from well out the handicap here. Very hard to fancy but did at least place on his most recent outing at Brighton.

Forecasts

Danecase (9/4), Quite A Story (11/4), Black Caesar (4/1), Captain Ryan (7/1), Virile (9/1), Monarch Maid (9/1), Easy Code (10/1), Pour La Victoire (12/1), Deer Song (25/1), Keep It Dark (28/1)

17:25 Goodwood - 25 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

MONARCH MAID has scored in this company twice before in her career and she can make it a hat-trick of apprentice handicap wins here. It's interesting that Easy Code remains in training with William Haggas and he must be showing a little more at home than he is on the track. Danecase could be the main danger to the selection after a promising performance last time and he could be even better now back on faster ground.
  1. Monarch Maid
  2. Danecase
  3. Easy Code
