Was in good form in the autumn, recording back-to-back wins at Carlisle (2m1f/2m4f, good) in novices' company before coming unstuck at Sedgefield (2m4f, good to soft). Tried to make all on his handicap debut at Wetherby last month until weakening from just before the last and 2lb drop will help.

Won a Taunton maiden hurdle in December (2m½f, good), but keen and well beaten when sent off the 9-2 favourite on his handicap debut at Doncaster in January. Would have gone close to winning but fell at the last when dropped back to a similar trip to this at Stratford last time. Should be thereabouts.

Huntingdon juvenile hurdle winner in October (2m, good) and had three more runs in that sphere before the end of the season, improving on it when runner-up at Ludlow (2m, good) in February, but failing to complete in the other two. This looks a tough mark from which to start his handicapping career.

Came good at Huntingdon (2m, good) last time when winning a maiden hurdle, beating a 120-rated opponent in the process. His mark therefore looks fair for this handicap debut and he will need to improve if he is to follow-up.

Has won over 1m4f on the Flat, though 0-5 over hurdles so far. Has been competitive in both his last two handicap runs at Uttoxeter and Chepstow, both over 2m, and while he needs some improvement, he could be in the shake-up again today.

Raised 3lb for finishing runner-up at Warwick (2m, good to soft) last time and a repeat of that would entitle him to be very competitive again here despite the extra weight.

Had three runs in novices'/maiden contests in 2014, making the frame at both Huntingdon (2m, heavy) on debut and Wincanton (1m7½f, soft). Last seen finishing runner-up in a Lingfield seller (1m2f, AW) last month and no fitness doubts ahead of this return to obstacles for handicap debut.

On same mark as when recording his only hurdles win over C&D in 2015. 4lb higher than when making the frame over fences at Ludlow 13 months ago but not seen since well beaten at that track just over a year ago. Probably best watched on this occasion.

Forecasts

Asum (15/8), Zenafire (11/4), Derintoher Yank (5/1), Hill Fort (13/2), Lord Huntingdon (8/1), Head High (14/1), Aldeburgh (14/1), Another Journey (25/1), Anton Chigurh (66/1)

16:15 Bangor - 20 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Zenafire has been competitive in both of his last two handicap runs and he looks capable of making an impact in this, while Derintoher Yank will appreciate the 2lb drop in the weights and ran well enough for a long way at Wetherby last time and looks capable of going close. However, preference is for ASUM, who has had some jumping issues to address at home since his last run, but he has ability and with a clear round he could be tough to topple.

  2. Derintoher Yank
  3. Zenafire
