Has won just 1-11 over fences and that was in November 2014 at Ascot from 8lb higher when with Venetia Williams. Slid in the weights before switching to this yard before running well from this mark on both of his recent runs at Market Rasen (2m3f, good to soft) and Wetherby (3m, good). Drop back in trip looks positive and can go well.

Prolific point-to-point winner who was placed twice in that sphere in April. Didn't show much in two starts under rules in the winter, but if he could reproduce his run from 12lb higher over 2m5½f here in July then he would have each-way claims.

In good form last summer with successive wins at Uttoxeter and Bangor, the latter from 6lb lower than today. Has subsequently remained competitive from 1lb higher than today, making the frame four times at around 3m. Returns after seven months off, there must be doubts about whether he will have the pace for this.

All three of his jumps wins have been at Market Rasen from 2m1f-2m3f and on good/soft ground. 6lb higher than the last of those in March 2016 and, while he could be competitive, he is yet to win from a mark as high as this.

Won a Southwell handicap hurdle (1m7½f, good) from 1lb higher in November and showed some promise on his chase debut at Carlisle (2m5f, good to soft) in April, though couldn't improve on that last time. A further 2lb drop should help and he can do better this time.

This is very much his time of year, having won point-to-points in the spring and last year recording three wins from four starts during it. 5lb higher than the last of those, goes well on good/good to firm ground and beaten just 2L from this mark last time over a similar trip. Should be very competitive.

15:40 Bangor - 20 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A case can be made for a few of these and the suggestion is THOONAVALLA, who loves the spring and some good ground, while he has dropped to what looks a handy mark. Lord Ben appears to be thriving on his racing at the moment and with a 2lb drop to help and the champion on board he should go close, while The Clock Leary is in good form and the drop in trip is a positive. Sonneofpresenting will need to improve to defy topweight from this mark, but is not ruled out.
  1. Thoonavolla
  2. Lord Ben
  3. The Clock Leary
