Held his form well after winning a maiden hurdle at Huntingdon a year ago; but needs to prove he is unscathed after taking a heavy fall at Warwick last month. The fact he was still in contention when he came down didn't go amiss with the handicapper, who hit him with a 1lb rise just for good measure. Stiff test under topweight.

Wore a tongue tie for the first when she won with a bit in hand last time out but remains to be seen how she will cope with a 10lb higher mark this time around. The rider's claim effectively negates the rise, sop one to bear in mind if the vibes are positive about her follow up bid.

Versatile in the past but looked a shade of better days towards the end of his time with Keith Reveley and may be best watched in making his debut for a new yard after four months on the sidelines.

Rated 141 at his best over fences, so very well treated in comparison. His form over hurdles doesn't really stand up to the same scrutiny though. And he has a bit to prove these days.

Likes a good test of stamina and a good record from his completed efforts over hurdles (1 win and 5 placed efforts from 8 starts). Failed to complete his last two starts over fences, though, and looks a risky option on balance.

Showed ability in point-to-points before make the switch to hurdles for his current yard. Very respectable efforts in this sphere up to now and, with the step up in distance and application of cheekpieces likely to sharpen him up, he is a very worthy contender on these terms.

Model of consistency but the fact he has only been raised 2lb for finishing second in three consecutive handicaps has to raise a concern about the worth of the form. Needs to prove he has the willingness to put his head in front when it really matters.

20:00 Southwell - 16 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A tough little race despite the lack of numbers; as not too many can confidently be ruled out. However, BUBLE steps up to a more appropriate trip this evening and he just edges the nomination as the one to be on. Overtheedge is consistent in this grade but has lacked the resolution to get his head in front in his last three starts, so The Tailgater may pose a bigger threat if his jumping holds together this time around. Royal Debutante won well last time out but hasn't been given much leeway by the handicapper and would be facing a much sterner test on these terms were it not for her rider's 10lb claim.
  1. Buble
  2. The Tailgater
  3. Royal Debutante
