This High Chaparral gelded brother to Thunder Pass and useful The Cashel Man wore blinkers for his two starts at Doncaster and Yarmouth and showed only limited promise. May do better when he goes into handicaps.

Son of Mastercraftsman. who was expensively bought for 125,000 gns as a yearling in October, 2015. Half-brother to three winners at up to an extended 1m6f, he started awakwardly and was never a factor on his debut over C&D last month. Patient stable may be eyeing handicaps with him.

Third foal by Monsieur Bond, and a full-brother to a couple of modest maidens. Started slowly and was always struggling when fifth of sixth on debut at Newcastle over a mile. Best watched for now.

Was doing all his best work at the finish when second and third over almost 2f shorter on his first two starts at Wolverhampton. Switches to turf, but clearly has ability and is one to consider.

Changed hands for more money as a yearling than a foal and is related to winners abroad. Easy in the market when only sixth of eight at Lingfield on debut and probably needs more time to develop.

Gelded son of Geordieland, he is a half-brother to middle-distance winners Dubawi Dancer and Srinagar Girl and also to a winning hurdler. Slowly away and always in rear on debut at Lingfield, he is best watched.

High Chapparal colt from a winning family, he clearly needed the outing when a distant fifth of six on debut over 1m 4f at Salisbury. Drops back in trip and is another who looks more of a long-term prospect.

Showed promise in two starts as a juvenile and stepped up on those runs when runner-up in a Newmarket maiden last month. Should continue to improve and looks one of the more likely contenders.

Closely related to 1m1f-10.5f winner That Which Is Not and several other useful types. Might need this first outing, but his pedigree warrants respect and he is worth a second glance in the betting market.

Full brother to very useful Gan Amhras, he started joint favourite for a Newbury maiden in October, but was too green to do himself justice. He may need the experience again here, but if the market speaks for him he has to be considered.

Gelded son of Azamour whose dam won three times at up to 1m2f in handicap company on turf and on the AW. Stable not noted for first-time-out winners, but worthy of a second glance on pedigree.

A 130,000 gns yearling by Exceed And Excel, he is a third foal with a decent pedigree. Took a keen hold on his debut at this track last month, but showed distinct promise and clearly has ability. Okool looks his owner's first string, however.

Sent off at 100-1 on both starts as a juvenile at Wolverhampton in December and shaped with more promise on the second of them. Switches to turf and his future looks to be in handicaps.

Forecasts

Okool (7/4), Flaming Marvel (5/2), Uptown Funk (3/1), Wasm (12/1), Chief Craftsman (18/1), Sputnik Planum (25/1), William Booth (33/1), Air Ministry (50/1), Forward Contract (50/1), Hamelin Pool (66/1), Volturnus (80/1), Circling Vultures (100/1), Geordielad (100/1)

17:45 Nottingham - 12 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Several of these are works in progress, most notably the well-bred Uptown Funk and Wasm, Sputnik Planum is from a good family and looks interesting, while Chief Craftsman is worth watching with an eye to the future. However, Flaming Marvel and OKOOL have already shown a fair level of ability and the latter, with a fitness edge, is preferred.
  1. Okool
  2. Flaming Marvel
  3. Uptown Funk
