Does just about get this trip but best efforts have come at shorter. May have needed recent outing after four months away but may prefer softer ground than is likely today and best watched.

Ruler Of The Nilep12
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-12| J: C Gethings(3)| T: R Stephens| OR:  97

Has won one on the Flat (on the Fibresand at Southwell) and seems to be sllowly getting the hang of things over hurdles, with a respectable effort at Chepstow last time. May not want the ground too quick but chance respected.

Dites Rien28
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: N D Fehily| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  95

Showed some ability in novice hurdles before going handicapping, and has posted two solid efforts since doing so. This looks a little less taxing, despite a big field, and with likely improvement to come, has to be high on the shortlist.

No win since 2015 (for Gordon Elliott) and in truth, hasn't looked like a winner in waiting on any of his last few starts. Yard rarely have winners anyway (just 2-77 last 5 years) and others readily preferred.

Barely beat a horse home in three starts in novice hurdles but left that form well behind when second in a Ffos Las handicap hurdle, and may well have won but for a final flight mistake. Tongue tie there seemed to do the trick but this new trip has to be a concern (miler on the Flat)

Istimraar24
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-5| J: Adam Wedge| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR:  90

No doubting he's on a winning mark but recent form has taken a huge turn for the worse, finishing well beaten on all of his last four. Yard can land a punt, however, and is at least worth a look in the market.
7
Horse silk
Kilmoganny60
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: Benjamin Poste(3)| T: Katy Price| OR:  90
20/1
Hasn't shown enough in three starts so far to think he's well handicapped for his debut in the sphere today, but worth a cautionary look in the market all the same.
8

Fleur Du Weldt25
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-3| J: Alice Mills(5)| T: Miss G Haywood| OR:  88

Not much to cheer about on her first three starts and although she did a little better last time, it wasn't enough to think she's going to be winning today. Needs improvement, although going handicapping today may help.

Horse silk
Norse Da55
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: Conor Ring(3)| T: Mrs H R J Nelmes| OR:  84

Has shown next to nothing in seven starts so far, and an unseat at the first at Towcester last time hardly helps his cause here. Makes little appeal.

Lady Ashp,h120
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Brendan Powell| T: R Walford| OR:  83

Shown little in seven starts over a variety of trips and ground, and no better for cheekpieces last time. Needs the first time hood today to cause a major turnaround in his fortunes to hold any chance.

Culm Counsellorh14
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-12| J: Conor Shoemark| T: C J Down| OR:  83
8/1
Does at least know how to win when the opportunity arises, and having won over both 2m2f and 3m last season, is versatile as far as trip goes. Likes quick ground and latest staying-on fourth suggests turn may not be far away again.

Clearly Capable169
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-11| J: R Johnson| T: B Barr| OR:  82
6/1
Point-to-point winner but 0-14 under Rules so far, and joins new yard today. Interesting jockey booking (2 wins from 5 rides for the yard last 5 seasons) means he can't be discounted. Needs a market check, as support for him would be a clue as to his chances.

Horse silk
Buz Barton14
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-11| J: H Cobden| T: J D Frost| OR:  82
12/1
On the plus side, best effort of last year came over this C&D when second to Dun Scaith (and is well handicapped on that) but recent run, although probably needed after six months off, didn't show enough. Too many risks to get involved.

Age: 6|  Weight: 10-8| J: M G Nolan| T: C J Gray| OR:  79

Not seen out since finishing well beaten on the Flat at Bath last May, and will surely need this after such an absence. Hasn't shown enough so far to think she can get among the principals anyway.

Age: 7|  Weight: 10-0| J: James Best| T: D D Scott| OR:  65

Recent form suggests she's little hope, but the only point to make is that the only time he's worn any headgear, he won (on the Flat, Kempton 2015). However this trip will surely stretch his stamina, so that has to be a major concern. Others preferred.

16:15 Newton Abbot - 10 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

There's a fair bit of dead wood in here, and only a handful can be given chances on what they have shown so far. DITES RIEN stuck to the task well enough last time when third at Fontwell and may go two better today. She looks to have more to give and can win at the expense of Culm Counsellor, who has no secrets from the handicapper but is more likely to run her race than a few. Ruler Of The Nile may get in the money too. Both Istimraar and Kilmoganny would warrant a second look if the market spoke strongly in their favour.
  1. Dites Rien
  2. Culm Counsellor
  3. Ruler Of The Nile
