Frontrunner who has been in good form of late, scoring at Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Musselburgh. Has to defy a career-high mark, but dangerous to dismiss in his current mood.

Last three wins have all come at this track, but over a mile. Not so effective at Wolverhampton last time and this trip is on the sharp side for him. Has to enter calculations, however.

Gradually improving for his current trainer and shaped quite well when sixth of 11 in a Wolverhampton handicap last time. First try on this surface and jockey booking catches the eye.

Winner at this track over a mile in November and has been knocking on the door in recent outings. Still looks a little high in the handicap, though, so others are preferred.

Has failed to build on the promise of his debut success for Richard Hannon and did not show a great deal on his first start for his new yard behind Tavener at Lingield last month. Needs to up his game in order to be competitive.

Winner on her debut at Kempton in June, 2015, she has not won since, but has been running creditably and has slipped to a workable mark. Effective at a mile, but this 7f might suit slightly better.

Won over C&D for his new stable before finishing eighth of 14 at Southwell last time. Seems to prefer this surface and poses a threat to all on last month's success.

Last of nine to Hipz on his debut for this yard last month and will need to improve dramatically if he is to trouble the principals. Five AW wins have come elsewhere so he has to prove his effectiveness at this venue.

Maiden in 12 AW starts, but ran arguably her best race when runner-up at Wolvernampton last time, doing all her best work at the finish. Runs at this track for the first time and sound claims if taking to the surface.

Forecasts

Newstead Abbey (15/8), Tavener (4/1), Lucymai (6/1), East Coast Lady (6/1), Foie Gras (7/1), Desert River (8/1), Torment (12/1), Miss Goldsmith (14/1), Hipz (14/1), The Firm (66/1)

20:10 Chelmsford City - 8 May 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Most of these can be given chances and the one to make most appeal is HIPZ, who can be forgiven his flop at Southwell last time. Not all horses enjoy the deep surface there and he was much more at home when winning over C&D on his previous start. Miss Goldsmith is getting her act together and looks a threat off bottom weight, while Tavener is in form and likely to be thereabouts.
  1. Hipz
  2. Miss Goldsmith
  3. Tavener
