Dual winner last year and from a yard that look to be on their way back after a quiet spell. His best effort last year came on soft ground when winning a small field conditions stakes at Salisbury and even though he may have needed the run on his comeback this mark looks stiff enough on handicap debut from a tough draw.

Not well drawn at all and stall 10 will make life very awkward for this handicap debutante who won back-to-back 6f races last year on decent ground. Stepped up in grade (Group 3) fir her final run of the year the soft ground appeared to find her out. Will be better back on a sound surface but others preferred from this draw and this will be her first try over 5f.

The final one in this who is making his handicap debut and represents a stable that is in a rich vein of form at the moment. His maiden form was spoilt a little by his inability to settle and he didn't need to improve to get off the mark in a weak maiden over 5f at Brighton recently. In good hands though and this strong travelling sort remains with potential.

Top of the ground very much looks to suit him and both his wins over 5f have been gained on quicker ground. This mark of 86 doesn't look beyond him despite being beaten off it twice with soft ground to blame for one of the defeats. Could well be a bit better than he's shown so far but it may well be that 6f will suit him better.

Has one of the plum draws here and runners from stalls 1 and 2 are always to be respected. Followed up her maiden win as a juvenile with a win on her first handicap start as a three-year-old and looked very professional in doing so although she did have the run of the race over 5f on the AW at Wolverhampton. Still open to improvement and one to add to the shortlist here.

Drawn right on the inside here and in a great place to attack after winning twice as a two-year-old over 5f and 6f. Well backed on his first start this year and on his handicap start he ran rather free and failed to live up to expectations. Could well lead again here from this draw but will need to settle better to do himself justice.

A useful performer when trained in Ireland it did take her a while to get off the mark eventually doing so on the AW at Dundalk on her last outing for her former yard. Looked to have shown improved form for her current yard on her first start for them again on the AW but her improvement looked to have levelled off last time out back on turf. Her handicap form reads 324 and she's starting to look as though the handicapper has her off these sort of marks.

An AW debut over 6f in an easy contest saw him finally off the mark after connections had chosen some stiff tasks for him (ran in four Listed races and a Group3). Faced a stiff task on his handicap debut (carried a penalty) and ran about as well as he could but the suspicion remains that this mark could be a little high and the draw in stall 9 hardly helps either.

Very much a speedster whose best form has come over 5f and was well drawn to win at Chester on his third start and ran some other creditable races. Gelded over the winter he looked to need his first run of the year and could well build on that here.

The most experienced in this field his initial win came in handicaps off a lenient mark and he showed some solid form on turf and the AW after that. A bit more improvement was eked out by the application of cheekpieces on his first run of the year when winning at Newcastle over 5f and the same effect was made by first-time blinkers when winning at Southwell. Form looks solid and blinkers are retained here but does need to show even more improvement.

16:05 Sandown - 28 April 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

The draw nearly always plays an important part in 5f races with a prominent position on the rails from a low draw the best option. Of course you need a pacy sort to take to take advantage and QUEEN IN WAITING looks to fit the bill after she made all to win at Wolverhampton. Conversely the draw hasn’t done any favours to the promising Partitia and she’ll have to be very good to win this from a wide draw. Jumirah Bridge and Nayyar are two others that are of interest here although the latter has work to do with Queen in Waiting on their last meeting.
  1. Queen In Waiting
  2. Jumira Bridge
  3. Partitia
