Connections have done an excellent job in placing this gelding to complete a soft ground hat-trick and few would strongly rule out a four-timer here under another penalty, as he did the job very well last time carrying 11lb more than his previous run. Quicker conditions likely this time.

4lb higher than when runner-up in a Uttoxeter handicap in May last year for Tony Carroll and unable to cope with higher marks in both subsequent starts. First run for new trainer today and probably best watched unless market speaks strongly for her.

Starting to get the hang of things in handicaps this season, going close twice, the most recent being over C&D two starts ago from 2lb lower. Sent off favourite in an open handicap here last time and comfortably accounted for, but may do better back against novices.

Has dropped 13lb now for three defeats since going handicapping for current trainer. Runner-up in a good ground bumper on debut for Nicky Henderson and trip and forecast conditions should suit. Cheek pieces now added and despite recent appearances it is hard to believe that he can't get involved from this mark.

Tried at around this trip in a couple of novices' contests and now sent handicapping from a mark that should hold no fears if he has been hiding his light under a bushel. Best watched unless market suggests otherwise.

Beaten a long way all three starts to date and, while trainer can certainly plot a handicap success, it does not appear so likely on this one's debut in this sphere.

1-45 career record in both codes and 0-17 of that is over jumps. Did go close here in January (2m, good to soft) from this mark but beaten in a seller last time and not easy to enthuse about his chance.

Showed nothing for Nicky Henderson and mostly the same for Ken Slack, although ran his best race yet when trying to make all at Newcastle last time. Still has plenty to find, but first run for new yard today and good pilot booked. Market check advised.

Handicap debutant who has not been showing much to build on just yet and looks best watched this time, despite the lowly mark.

Has failed to complete in all six starts since being last of eight here in November 2015. Tongue strap will need to be a miracle cure to see him winning today.

Forecasts

Ask Paddy (15/8), Captain Mowbray (4/1), Jester Jet (11/2), Rocky Two (15/2), Let's Tango (8/1), Peppay Le Pugh (11/1), Oh So Gigolo (16/1), Black Buble (50/1), Gentleman James (66/1), Rebel Roger (80/1)

17:10 Wetherby - 21 March 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Ask Paddy arrives in tremendous form and is again likely to figure prominently here, but he has gone up a fair way in the handicap now and on this quicker ground he may not find things happening at the pace that he wants, so we will side with one proven on a sound surface, CAPTAIN MOWBRAY, who might be better suited now back against similarly inexperienced performers. Peppay Le Pugh is a very interesting contender, while Oh So Gigolo is one to cast a cursory glance at in the market.
  1. Captain Mowbray
  2. Ask Paddy
  3. Peppay Le Pugh
