Sprang a 100/1 shock just a few days ago when taking a C&D handicap on his first start on the AW. Connections rush him out here under a penalty in a bid to follow-up and looking at his previous profile it remains to be seen if he can add to that victory.

Has won six times on the turf but yet to score on the AW and has only had one previous try on the Fibresand. His losing run is starting to stack up now (not won since June 2015) and although his mark is tumbling and if he found anything like his old form he would come into the equation.

Has looked suited by this surface and won on his Fibresand debut making the most of a much reduced mark over 7f in January. Raised 6lb for that effort he ran another sound race over C&D (back in cheekpieces) looking ready for another run over a mile. Disappointed last time out on Tapeta but could well bounce back on his favoured surface now.

Still a maiden after 14 attempts with nine of them coming on the AW but does act on Fibresand. Creditable run here last time over 6f when finishing fifth when give a further helping hand by the handicapper but once again handicapping himself with a slow start.

Really needs no introduction around here and this will be his 106th start at the course and he's been in reasonable form of late. Ran well last time out over this trip which had previously looked too short for him to finish second and always hard to discount around his favourite course.

Has won here but until his last effort had looked somewhat out of sorts and lacking any zip. Has dropped below his last winning mark so has to be respected although a return to a mile would look to suit him.

Finished behind both General Tufto and Rupert Boy last time out but got a hideous ride all the way up the straight from today's rider finding all the trouble that was going. Wasn't unduly punished and off a mark that he can surely win off if getting a better ride on this occasion as he travelled as though he was in form.

Very little form to show and runs from a 1lb out of the handicap. It would be a surprise to see him win this.

Forecasts

Hammer Gun (6/4), Dark Forest (9/4), Spice Mill (8/1), General Tufto (10/1), Limerick Lord (10/1), Rupert Boy (16/1), Balducci (20/1), Wotabond (50/1)

16:25 Southwell - 14 March 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A distinct lack of solid options in this low grade handicap and despite the fact that DARK FOREST may appreciate a return to a mile he does like this surface and has proved that he can act on it. Rupert Boy is another who might be better over a mile but he is dropping in the handicap and his mark is starting to look dangerous. Hammer Gun sprang a big surprise last time out and is no certainty to repeat that run while General Tufto will be hoping that there is a good gallop to aim at here over a trip that looks short enough. It’s hoped that Limerick Lord gets a better ride/run than he did last time out and if he does he may well provide the main danger.
  1. Dark Forest
  2. Limerick Lord
  3. General Tufto
