Good performance last time when 3L behind Ami Desbois in receipt of 6lb at Wetherby. That was his first try at this trip and he can continue to improve here. Acts on soft and heavy ground.
5lb higher than his latest win, which was on good ground at Market Rasen last May. Stays this trip well enough and put in a decent effort at Doncaster last term, although the suspicion is that he needs a sound surface to show his best.
Has shown all his best form on a sound surface and won over this trip on fast ground in Ireland. Decent effort at Wetherby two starts ago and can put a line through his latest run when he was outclassed. Looks a player back at this level, though forecast going is a concern.
Winning point-to-pointer who scored at the second time of asking for current yard over C&D in December, though then just a shade disappointing under a penalty at Catterick. Dropped 1lb going into this handicap debut and has a bit to prove from 129. Market check advised.
Won a Wetherby handicap hurdle (2m3½f, heavy) a year or so ago and is 3lb higher here. Consistent performer representing a yard that has come into form and very interesting now tried over this trip.
All four hurdles successes have been on soft or heavy ground, so likely to have conditions in his favour. Stays well, having won over 3m2f at Warwick in December from 7lb lower. Out of his depth when upped in class back there last time and now headgear tried for the first time. Bit to prove.
Forecasts
Sam Red (2/1), Kelvingrove (7/2), Nobuttaboy (4/1), Saint John Henry (6/1), Nautical Nitwit (7/1), Minstrels Gallery (9/1)
Sam Red's run behind Ami Desbois at Wetherby reads well in context and he should be thereabouts, who the suggestion here is MINSTRELS GALLERY. Lucy Wadham's runners are in good form and this eight-year-old is unexposed at this trip and should go very well. Nobuttaboy looks next best.
1. Minstrels Gallery
2. Sam Red
3. Nobuttaboy
