Landed a Cheltenham Listed hurdle (2m4f, good to soft) on New Year's Day, but was well beaten behind Wholestone back there over C&D on trials day when stepped back up to Grade Two level (soft). Does not appear to be particularly ground-dependent but has to concede weight to all his rivals.
Cost connections £40,000 last year and made a promising bumper debut at Huntingdon in the spring when with Seamus Mullins. Has had two starts for current yard, being well beaten both times in this sphere. No reason why he can't improve, especially with yard in good form, though will need to be a significant step up if he is to win.
Bought for £72,000 last summer and sent to current yard for which he made a promising debut in a Haydock bumper, before being pitched in against Finian's Oscar in the Grade One Tolworth Hurdle. Not disgraced being beaten 10L by that potential superstar on only his second racecourse appearance, though does have a bit to prove now after being turned over at odds-on last time. All races under rules and in point-to-points have been on soft or heavy ground.
Well beaten in all starts to date, although did make the frame on debut in a bumper last year. This is only his second run over hurdles, so there is potential for some improvement now that he is stepped up in trip, but otherwise hard to fancy.
Won both a hurdle and a chase when trained in France and joined champion trainer before his latest run, which was a fortuitous success at Wincanton when looking beaten but then left clear. Pedigree suggests that he may be able to improve for this step up in trip and tongue strap retained here. Stable in good form so has to enter calculations.
Well beaten in all completed starts so far and he is going to need a sharp improvement from what we have seen to be able to take a hand in the finish of this contest, despite his yard's good recent run.
Forecasts
Coo Star Sivola (6/5), Global Stage (5/4), Monsieur Co (6/1), Chateau Robin (20/1), Max Dynamo (200/1), Sacred Summit (250/1)
An opener that is thin on proven form, so a market check is advised to see what confidence there is in any of the potential improvers. Coo Star Sivola has achieved most on the track so far and is not ruled out, though giving 10lb to GLOBAL STAGE might be beyond him. You do have to give Fergal O'Brien's runner a disappointing effort last time, but he is clearly well regarded having been pitched in at Grade One level on just his second run and did well enough. Monsieur Co was lucky last time, but that is not to say that he can't go close over this longer trip.
1. Global Stage
2. Coo Star Sivola
3. Monsieur Co
