Goes into this 12lb higher than his latest win, which was at Fairyhouse a couple of years ago (2m5f, soft/heavy). Held his form for a while after that, though has been off the boil in three fairly quick starts in succession of late. Hard to make a strong case for him on current well being.

All three career wins were gained when trained by Arthur Moore and at trips up to 2m1f on soft or heavy ground. Has plummeted 21lb in the weights since joining current yard and the market will probably be the best guide as to whether he is likely to figure more prominently than on his five previous outings this winter.

0-15 under rules, though has finished runner-up on three of his last four starts, two of which were over today's trip. Major concern with him is his ability to handle the forecast going, as his best form has been on good.

Rated 121 when landing a 3m4f handicap chase at Haydock for Chris Grant in April 2015, but has endured a rapid slide since then. Switched to current yard, he showed signs of a revival in fortunes at Chepstow (extended 2m3f, soft) last month, for which he has gone back up 2lb. Connections make a very long trip up here to let him take his chance and a market check is advised.

Oscar Lateen11
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-13| J: Thomas Dowson(5)| T: V Thompson| OR:  87
20/1
Heavy ground C&D winner in December 2015 from a 2lb higher mark, though badly out of form in the past year. Stable's runners now going much better, however, and with his jockey's claim here this son of Oscar has his best chance for some time of a return to form.

Dingo Bayb,h116
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-13| J: B S Hughes| T: R Menzies| OR:  87

Last success was from 1lb higher over 3m at Hexham (heavy) in December 2014, but clearly had his problems as he was not seen from March 2015 until last month. Pulled up on that return run at Ayr, but has won before after being pulled up and goes into this following a 3lb drop and with different headgear applied (has won in cheek pieces) in an attempt to return to winning ways.

0-31 career profile makes him hard to fancy, though his first run for this yard at Catterick last time was not completely devoid of hope. Races from same mark today and a market check is probably prudent.

Age: 12|  Weight: 10-5| J: W T Kennedy| T: Miss L A Perratt| OR:  79
16/1
Won a good ground Kelso bumper way back in 2011 for Lucy Normile and later spent over three years off the track, hence still having only had 12 career starts. Just collared close to home over 2m at Ayr last time (heavy), in only his third chase. Pedigree suggests that he should handle this distance well enough and provided this fragile old-stager is over that effort, there is no reason why he can't go close again.
9

Under The Red Skyp21
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-5| J: Callum Bewley(3)| T: Kenny Johnson| OR:  79
14/1
Irish point-to-point winner who is now 0-15 under rules, going closest to breaking that duck when a nose second to Harleys Max over C&D (soft) last month. With the winner having gone well again from a 6lb higher mark, that form looks solid in the context of this if you can forgive his latest effort at Catterick.
10
Horse silk
Hattons Hill21
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-3| J: Tony Kelly| T: H Hogarth| OR:  77
9/1
Has a 7lb pull with Under The Red Sky for finishing three lengths behind him over C&D last month, but like that opponent he also pulled up at Catterick next time. If you can forgive him that then he would appear to have every chance of reversing those placings.

Here's To Harryt39
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: Grant Cockburn(3)| T: N W Alexander| OR:  69
40/1
Dual point-to-point runner-up who has failed to complete on all three starts under rules so far and is readily opposed from out of the handicap.

Forecasts

William Money (6/4), Chain Of Beacons (6/1), Vincent Row (7/1), Hattons Hill (9/1), Under The Red Sky (14/1), Dingo Bay (14/1), Ardmillan (14/1), Anitopia (16/1), Oscar Lateen (20/1), Treat Yourself (25/1), Here's To Harry (40/1)

14:50 Newcastle - 15 February 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

Rebecca Menzies has got a good record with others' cast-offs, so a win for Dingo Bay would not surprise, though the suggestion here at what might be a decent price is OSCAR LATEEN. Victor Thompson was on the verge of handing in his cards as a trainer, but has had a change of heart since then and that has coincided with better form by his inmates. Admittedly, this nine-year-old has to put some poor form behind him, but the forecast ground suits and he is 2lb below a previous C&D win. Anitopia has been given a bit of time since his last run and he too could be worth a place again, though do keep an eye on the market regarding Treat Yourself. 1. Oscar Lateen 2. Dingo Bay 3. Anitopia
