Age: 7|  Weight: 12-0| J: T Scudamore| T: D Pipe| OR:  132
25/1
Blinkers applied for the second time (pulled up over hurdles in previous attempt wearing). A three time winner over hurdles, including at Worcester in October, and this is just his second experience of fences having finished eighth of 12 on chasing debut at Uttoxeter on New Year's Eve.

Monbeg Goldb135
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: Aidan Coleman| T: J & A O'Neill| OR:  130
8/1
Twice a winner in testing conditions over hurdles at this sort of trip (both Exeter), and made an excellent chasing debut at Fontwell in November returning from an 11 month absence. However, could only finish eighth of 12 next time over this C&D from a 2lbs higher mark. First time blinkers applied in retrieval mission here.

Little Jonp32
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-11| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: N & W Twiston-Davies| OR:  129
12/1
Previous course success came over 2m4f on Soft ground in November 2015, but from an 8lbs higher mark (137). However, hasn't been able to replicate that run in eight subsequent starts. Has fallen a long way in the weights and suggested he might be on the way back at Haydock, but unproven stamina wise at this trip. Cheek-pieced.

Rathlin Rose601
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-10| J: Michael Heard(5)| T: D Pipe| OR:  128
20/1
Two time winner over hurdles on testing ground, who missed his entire novice campaign after a bloodless chase debut success at Wetherby in May 2015. Returns from that extended absence, and cut little slack by the handicapper (on hurdles ratings) despite all that time off the track.

Potters Corner60
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-9| J: D N Russell| T: Paul Morgan| OR:  127
5/4
2m4f novice hurdle winner in April on testing ground at Ffos Las, earning a trip to Auteuil in May for a conditions event. Posted a solid effort in finishing second on deep ground, and has also ran well on both starts so far over fences this winter. Consistent.

Brandon Hill41
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-9| J: N D Fehily| T: T Lacey| OR:  127
11/2
Dual staying hurdles winner (December 2014 and January 2015), but off for 22 months when returning over fences at Uttoxeter in November (sixth of 13). Improved a bundle for that run and ran out a game winner over 3m on Soft ground at Warwick on his next start early last month. Noel Fehily retains the mount on this tough performer, but raised 7lbs to 127.

Wychwoods Brook11
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-8| J: James Nixon(7)| T: H Whittington| OR:  126
18/1
Driven out to score by a half length from a 3lbs higher mark than this at Taunton at around this time last year, and generally runs well in January and February, but not been able to recapture that form (lightly raced) since. Always in the rear just last week at Sandown and needs to show more despite reduced mark.

One For The Bossp22
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-7| J: R T Dunne| T: D Burchell| OR:  125
100/1
A dual winner in June (over shorter) at Newton Abbot and Stratford, but pulled up on both starts this winter at Chepstow. Stamina and well-being to prove.
10
Horse silk
Audacious Planp40
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Adam Wedge| T: Miss R Curtis| OR:  125
16/1
Possibly revived for a spin over hurdles at Chepstow two starts back, and produced his best effort over fences since October 2015 when finishing third to the bold jumping Ballybroker Breeze last time at Bangor. Could go well here from a 2lbs lower mark if in the same mood.

Bob Tucker18
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-7| J: T J O'Brien| T: C E Longsdon| OR:  125
12/1
C&D winner off 119 (April 2016) who has paid the price since following up off 125 at Kempton in May. He's gradually worked back to that mark since this winter and finished fifth here over further last month.

Horse silk
50/1
In good form on return in October, and backed up a second placed effort at Uttoxeter (3m Good to Soft) with victory off a mark of 119 at Stratford (2m6f+ Good). However, needs to show more than when a weakening sixth of eight at Doncaster last month to figure here, and possibly still feeling the effects (confidence wise) of a heavy fall at Ludlow in November.
13
Horse silk
Horatio Hornblower18
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-5| J: Lizzie Kelly(5)| T: Nick Williams| OR:  123
14/1
Course hurdles winner in March 2014 (2m2f), but has won over this trip over fences at Ffos Las in March 2016. Marks in excess of 123 have proved beyond him since that race, including here over further last month, but now dropped back to 123 for the first time since and this trip will suit better today.

Get Involved47
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: C Poste| T: R Dickin| OR:  118
16/1
A 3m Soft ground hurdle winner here in March 2016 (off a mark of just 102). Started off well switched to fences at Cheltenham in April, but not quite reached that level since (at end of a long season). Entitled to have needed recent return at Sandown, but was already behind when unseating today's rider at the eighth.

14:55 Newbury - 18 January 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

This is a wide open race, and a case can be made for any number of the runners. Both Herbert Park and Monbeg Gold are unexposed over fences and could go well in different types of headgear today whilst the long time absent Rathlin Rose also has scope to improve in this sphere. Poets Corner is consistent, whilst Audacious Plan has possibly been revived for a spin over hurdles. Bob Tucker, Horatio Hornblower and Get Involved are all course winners in various guises, but BRANDON HILL just gets the nod despite a recent 7lbs rise, having returned from a lengthy absence showing no ill effects. 1. Brandon Hill 2. Monbeg Gold 3. Audacious Plan
