Very smart hurdler (rated 167 at his peak) and the winner of seven races over hurdles including two Grade 1 events at Aintree. Came back to form on chasing debut last time out over C&D and likely to make some further improvement over the larger obstacles.

Appears that he is going to make a better chaser than hurdler although he was still smart in that sphere. Slightly disappointing on his chasing debut at Chepstow but he banished all memories of that performance when putting up a very smart and likeable performance at Newbury. Won a Grade 2 novice in taking fashion jumping with real flair and fluency on that occasion.

Very useful hurdler who has taken well to chasing. Unbeaten over the larger obstacles winning at Carlisle on debut and stepping up in class to take a Listed event at Warwick last time out. Open to further improvement over fences and often finds plenty for pressure; a very game and likeable type.

Useful over hurdles although his form doesn't quite match that of the other four rivals in this race. Improved on his chasing debut last time out at Bangor when a creditable second (still made mistakes) and this is a tough task that he faces here.

13:25 Cheltenham - 1 January 2017 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

An interesting and competitive contest despite the small field and it may well be a case of who can find the most improvement here. The most likely candidate would be CLAN DES OBEAUX who took his Newbury contest in fine style. Critics will say that the race rather fell apart but he jumped like an old hand and the 7lb penalty for that win may not be enough to stop him here. The Nicky Henderson duo will provide a good test with Whisper marginally preferred of that pair especially as he has the better hurdling form and looks to be following an identical path to Oscar Whisky trained and owned by the same connections who took this race back in 2014. Briery Belle shouldn’t be underestimated either with her attitude and jumping ability sure to keep her in this contest for a considerable way. 1. Clan Des Obeaux 2. Whisper 3. Briery Belle
