A wide-open handicap with several making their chase debuts against more experienced rivals. Of those with form, Faitque de l’Isle heads the market on the back of a win at Uttoxeter last time. He looks good when able to do his racing on the bridle, but has a history of stopping quickly for pressure. In fairness, he’s been well campaigned since joining James Evans, taking advantage of a career-low mark to win at Ludlow in February under Lucy Turner and adding a couple of wins in modest company, always with Turner riding. He is still at the right level but history has shown that he’s vulnerable from marks in the 90’s and he looks vulnerable.
Another Folly was runner-up on seasonal debut and is also quite short in the betting, but that return was in May and those that Jane Williams has reintroduced after an absence this autumn have all shaped as if in need of as run, so preference is for JOINING FORCE, who had the requisite three runs for a mark over hurdles last season and looks sure to outstrip the form he showed now going over fences.
Joining Force showed nascent talent between the flags for Harley Dunne, finishing clear of the rest when chasing home Forty Coats at Ballinaboola in February 2024 before joining Fergal O’Brien for €42,000 later that month. He has run with credit on all four starts under Rules, just looking to lack a change of gear over hurdles but keeping on well to be placed twice at Market Rasen in the spring. His stable is going well with eight winners in the last fortnight, and he's taken to go close at the first attempt over regulation fences.
Von Krolock was backed as if defeat was out of the question on his first start for James Owen at Wolverhampton on Monday night, but he was well beaten at odds of 8/11. Perhaps an extra furlong here will help, with his best form in Ireland coming at 7f, but he’s not easy to support on this quickfire recovery mission.
OSELTON is a much more solid selection based on recent form, producing a career best when a four-length winner over Sands Of Dubai – successful next time - in a C&D handicap last month, and he should have gone close at Newcastle last time, held up too far off a modest gallop and finishing well after meeting some trouble in running to be beaten less than a length by the well-treated Ring of Gold. The positives with him are easy to see, and the presence of Von Krolock ought to see his price hold up, while it’s possible that the latter will again be punted as connections look to regain recent losses.
