Curragh tips: Racing preview and best bets

Fran Berry returns with two more fancies for Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby day at the Curragh.

Fran Berry's Curragh Tips

1pt e.w Beset in 4.50 the Curragh at 7/1 (General - 1/5 1,2,3,4)

1pt e.w London City in 5.55 the Curragh at 10/1 (Ladbrokes & William Hill - 1/5 1,2,3,4,5)

On a day when Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore are expected to win the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby with Lambourn, I’m drawn to their runner in the closing two mile handicap.

It’s a big-field affair and LONDON CITY has top weight but he’s very interesting. By Justify out of the Guineas winner Winter, he was a good winner of a handicap at the York Dante Meeting last season and looked progressive.

He them bombed out in a Listed race at Limerick next time and hasn’t been since. But it’s interesting the powerful team have kept him and he has the potential to develop into a pattern-class stayer.

With that in mind he’s likely to be ready for his return and I think he can hit the frame at a decent each-way price.

I also like BESET in the Tulfarris Hotel And Golf Resort Irish European Breeders Fund Ragusa Handicap at 4.50.

She made a winning start for Joseph O’Brien at Sligo in May and than ran a good race to finish second at Goodwood next time.

She has a good low draw in three which is often vital in a big-field handicap over the Derby course-and-distance and cheekpieces go on for the first time.

If the headgear brings about any improvement she looks sure to go well as we might not have seen the best of her yet.
