Not too many miles on the clock and possible he can pay his way before long. Ran out of steam here last time, so the drop in trip may suit. The burden of top weight a tough ask.

Modest ability on the Flat and not achieved much in three starts over hurdles up to now. Others more appealing on this occasion.

On a handy mark and highly encouraging that he showed some of his old sparkle last time out. Not one to trust implicitly but capable of making the frame in a race of this nature if events unfold to suit. (Has won a similar race here before.)

Won a seller on the Flat before joining his current yard. Yet to inspire much confidence in this sphere, however, and best left to his own devices in spite of his trainer's record with this type of animal.
5

Well beaten in both previous starts for his current yard and has a good bit to prove just now. Best watched.

In the minority, in that he was in good form when last seen out and has gone well after a break. Ground and trip should suit; has to be considered. Rider's 7lb claim also a handy boost at the weights.

Tongue tied for the first time after being pulled up here last time out. Form has dipped significantly as this season has progressed so the drop to this grade looks a logical move. (Blinkers had very little impact last time.)

Third in a C&D seller last time out leaves him with obvious place claims back here in the same grade. The fact he's still 5lb above his last winning mark is a telling statement about his limits, though.

Likes this course and is versatile enough to cope with the drop in trip. One to bear in mind in a very weak race.

Not much to set the pulse racing from his previous starts over hurdles and even the presence of a 10lb claimer in the saddle does little to make the gelding an appealing proposition at the weights.

Not won since 2016 and makes very limited appeal after just a couple of spins on the Flat in two years. Not difficult to overlook on this occasion.

Returned to racing under rules after a highly unsuccessful spell in point-to-points. In the right grade but was well beaten last time (held by Mutoondresdashorse on that form) and another that makes little appeal from a punting point of view.

Scorpion Starp10
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-5| J: Alexander Thorne(3)| T: M Hill| OR:  79

Formerly useful in point-to-points but form over regulation obstacles has been patchy on occasions. However, his last two appearances at this course read well in the context of this race and the gelding is one to consider if supported.

Won over fences (2m5f, good) at Fakenham in May but soon reverted to type afterwards. Blinkers reapplied after he failed to respond in a visor last time out. Hard to recommend despite the drop in trip being an interesting move.

Well beaten in all four previous starts - including when dropped to this grade last time out. Shouldn't be too hard to omit from the betting plans.

1lb wrong at the weights but suited by dropping back to this sort of trip and encouraging that he wasn't beaten far in a decent little race last time out. Place claims if able to dish out a repeat dose over this shorter distance.

17:05 Newton Abbot - 1 October 2018 - Racecard - Horse Racing - Sporting Life

A moderate end to the card but a race that is within the reach of LORD FENDALE, who goes well after a break and will be a tough customer if he runs up to expectations. Bulletproof is another to bear in mind, as he's still capable at this level despite his advancing years; while Mash Potato and Kilcaragh Boy also have feasible chances of making a good fist of things if they consent to run up to the best of their recent levels of form.
  1. Lord Fendale
  2. Bulletproof
  3. Mash Potato
