Liverpool's Premier League records: Jurgen Klopp talks down points and wins record after Brighton victory

Jurgen Klopp continues to insist he and his squad are not thinking about breaking Premier League records after their win at Brighton moved them closer to making history.

With four games left, Liverpool need nine points to break Man City's 100-point record from two seasons ago, while three wins will also see them top City's record of 32 in a season - also set in that remarkable 2017/18 campaign.

The new Premier League champions were made to work hard again though in their 3-1 win at the Amex, with a Mo Salah double and a Jordan Henderson goal earning their 30th win of the campaign to take them to 92 points.

Liverpool are already the earliest champions in history in terms of games remaining, and the latest in terms of the calendar, but Klopp insists he is not looking at making further entries in the record books just yet.

The Reds are also home wins against Burnley and Chelsea away from winning every home game this season - which would be the first time a top-flight team had achieved a 100 percent record since 1892.

"What can I say? When I think about the next four opponents and think we will get 12, 10, or whatever points, I can't do that," said Klopp.

"How could I assume we could get all these points? When I think about 92 points, I think how could we get 97 last year (finishing second), it's unbelievable.

"First and foremost you have to fight for the three points.

"That's what we did tonight and I like that a lot because that's the mother and the father of each win that you really work hard for it, and the boys did that again, that's great."

A major downside to the victory at Brighton was the knee injury picked up by skipper Henderson - who limped off late on.

Klopp isn't sure how bad the problem is, saying: "I don't know, honestly. I didn't see the situation back on the pitch but I know that it will not be nothing, probably.

"That's how it is but we have to wait, I cannot say more."
